Leisure Suit Larry has done it longer, deeper, and stronger. He’s been “around the block”, so to speak. It’s quite an accomplishment for a man wearing a suit that’s been out of style long before it was manufactured. He’s seen it all, from sleazy nightclubs and seedy bars with alleys that should be avoided at all times. He’s even gone native for a bit and grabbed a piece of the island life. His life has been full of tight spots and pulsating pectorals. His lizard’s always lounging and looking for love in several wrong places, the more the merrier! Always willing and able to perform some undercover work, our man Larry is a swingin’ single guy out for some action! His lines are as groovy as a record and his strut is something to be seen!
Leisure Suit Larry’s Greatest Hits and Misses features the loveable loser Larry Laffer in five complete adventures with throbbing suspense, pulchritudinous point-and-click action, and some parsing on the side! Hubba hubba! Help Larry score as you hit the town of Lost Wages, Nevada which “looks like a huge neon dinosaur making it with 6,000 acres of electrified sequins”, the scintillating sandy shores of Nontoonyt Island, and go to Los Angeles and paint the town red. Celebrate Larry’s finest years and remember, big things come in small packages!
There's no Larry 7 because this is a digital version of the collector box set "Greatest Hits and Misses" that Sierra released before Love for Sail was made. Makes sense, yes? Silly people.
Get this if you like adventure games and sly humor.
"Leisure Suit Larry" is a series of adventure games put out by Sierra. What makes it different from other adventure games is that instead of trying to be a hero, the goal is to get laid. This unique formula turned out to be highly successful. "Leisure Suit Larry" became Sierra's highest-selling series of adventure games except for "King's Quest."
"Leisure Suit Larry 1," is a good start to the series. It gives you a feel of what the series is going to be like.
"Leisure Suit Larry 2" is more like a traditional adventure game. A goofy traditional adventure game for adults. This is not a good game, but the humor makes is worthwhile.
"Leisure Suit Larry 3" returns to the formula of the first game (trying to get laid instead of being a hero). It has its flaws, but I love this game.
There is no "Leisure Suit Larry 4." To find out why, play "Space Quest 4."
"Leisure Suit Larry 5" stinks. This is the main reason I give this collection 4 stars instead of 5.
"Leisure Suit Larry 6" is a near-flawless game. It should be regarded as one of the greatest adventure games ever made.
This collection excludes "Leisure Suit Larry 7," but that's no big loss.
So yes, if you're looking for a comedic adventure game for adults, "Leisure Suit Larry" is for you.
Just a warning: some of the games have age protection, so in order to play them you have to be able to answer some questions to verify that you are old enough. And since the original "Leisure Suit Larry 1" came out in 1987, the questions were designed for people who would be adults in 1987. If you weren't an adult in 1987, it may be difficult to start playing the game.
Familiar titles in one package in case you missed some or want a nostalgia trip.
Sadly the downloads are installer executables when these could have well been distributed as archives that don't require running.
To play these, scrap the bundled untrusted ancient scummvm and install a real fresh version for your system and point it at the game data for each game.
...but most importantly, Leisure Suit Larry taught me how to love. This is a collection of classic point and click adventure games in the Sierra style, so expect a lot of unfair deaths, a lot of humor, killer tunes, and baffling puzzles specifically designed in a scheme to sell hint books. Because of Al Lowe's sense of humor, he really made a place for himself in the pantheon of all time great game developers. The games are antiquated by today's standards, but should be of interest to the oldest of old school adventure game fans, anybody interested in the evolution of PC games, and fans of off-color jokes. With 5 Leisure Suit Larry games in the collection (plus a very weird text adventure), you get a lot of value for your money, and I can say with confidence that this is one of the best purchases GOG has to offer. Please, help Larry Laffer in his quest to find romance and passion, and maybe you'll just learn something about yourself along the way. I know I did.
I love Leisure Suit Larry. I do. I even run LarryLaffer.net and the twitter for it. However, I have been replaying the games - and 1, 2 and 3 are great. However... 5 has some issues. Unlike 1-3, 5 suffers from several things - and it's not even funny. It's borderline ... gross... and even has some humor, that I - as twisted as I am - couldn't get behind. (For example when Patti gets toner all over her and goes down below... there's an immediate comment made that was cringe worthy). LSL5 is a game, that there's minimal puzzle solving (it just does it for you; all you really need is the copy protection for the flights, and then you're just sitting back telling Larry/Patti where to go for the most part). Where LSL5 does one thing right is that it DOES have multiple ways to solve some puzzles.
