LEGO® Indiana Jones™: The Original Adventures

I had the DS version of this game when I was a kid and figured why not try the PC version. It's fun, cozy, and runs well. It has a lot of optional grinding so it'll give you something to do for a long, long time. The only thing I don't like is that you can apparently buy minikit pieces with points? But that's not a knock on the game, just something I found odd.

GOG Version is missing dx9 runtimes. Game starts but graphics are broken. Even menue is unusable. Fix: Go to the settings of the game in Heroic, in tap "WINE" scroll down, go to "WINETRICKS" and click on "OPEN WINETRICKS GUI" Select your wineprefix (default) -> "install a WindowsDLL or component" Mark all d3dx9* components (or DLLs) and maybe d3dcompiler* and click on OK

On a good note, you never die; You just respawn. It's annoying how the bad guys keep coming while you're trying to figure out a puzzle. Some of the puzzles can be frustrating. Plan on a lot of googling for answers. Fighting is more random than skill. The mechanics can be frustrating when trying to pick and use objects. XBox controller is supported but you need to set it at the start of the game. No inverted look.

In my opinion, this was one of the best LEGO games ever made. 1) Adapts the movie scenes to be fun while staying faithful to the source material; Indiana Jones reimagined LEGO style. 2) Introduced new mechanics to the LEGO formula at the time. None of the new mechanics feel like filler or unpolished, which certain later games lost. 3) The contextualizing of collectables within the swashbuckling adventure theme (minikits as treasure chests and upgrades as parcels that need to be mailed home) is the most immersive in the series that I know. 4) The easter eggs are fun and the levels are excellently paced. 5) Sure, some platforming sections and NPC spawns can be kinda annoying, but nothing truly bad. 6) For those looking for a trip down memory lane like me who played this at launch all those years ago, jump on that horse or motorcycle and enjoy the ride. 7) Thanks GOG for preserving this classic for me and hopefully my kids one day.
