Indie Siberian Survival Horror

A very oldschool survival horror reminiscent of the early Silent Hill series and some later Resident Evil entries with the old baggage of inventory management. Despite being survival horror and breaking weapons, the game seems to encourage attacking and fighting with respawning enemies that can also drop weapons themselves - something that was probably taken from Silent Hill Downpour but better left there. While I can appreciate some degree of not having any handholding (like needing to manually control the flashlight to expose puzzle solutions and a map without a compass), there are a lot of small things that pile up to a large amount of micromanagement which takes away from the atmosphere: - inventory is extremely limited and key items take inventory space - despite having rudimentary maps in the end you need to learn the room layout and paths that also shift due to unlocked shortcuts instead of relying on your map to see where you have and haven't been - the decision to have tool durability will urge you to keep at least one backup tool (which also doubles as a weapon), further shrinking the limited space - healing items are plentiful but due to the limited inventory you'll have to remember where they are or make a number of trips to the stash in the safe room. - while it's a staple that such games make trips out of the safe room some sort of scavenging run where you need to gamble life and ammo in return for more supplies or key items, the addition of a hypothermia mechanic adds yet another layer with a timer to those runs. Which can be delayed using yet another supply currency (Heating Pads or Pills) that takes yet another inventory slot if you want them with you It all adds up to a lot of overhead for what could be an excellent horror setting that lives and thrives through the world and enemy design and detracts somewhat. All of that being said, there is an enjoyable, eerie survival game here with intriguing world building and good sound design for a decent price. If you like the old survival horror games then grab it and give it a go.

Nice budget terror title.

The game understands what made many of the classic survival horror work and does a very good job replicanting it, altough with a limited budget and a long development cycle. You protagonist, Anna, is not generally a well round character, that is looking for survival and to help the people with her to do the same. The plot does have some good old cliches, but they are a good part of the experience too. The gameplay is rather simple: There are no guns, so all combat is a very simple melee moveset, a dodge that works well and weapons that... break. Yeah, you will need to deal with two things that are limited, the better flashlights all have batteries that can't be recharged, and most weapons break with use, and these weapons are also tools, which means you need them to open boxes, pathways and even for boss battles. Also, your flashlight isn't just to show you the way, some enemies are weak to it! Another very important point is how the cold works. This game happens in a forgotten lab, in the middle of a desolate frozen landscape. And so, as you walk around the base, certain eras will be much colder than others, and you might start to suffer hypothermia, you will know whant it happens. And the only way to fight it is using certain itens, that are limited, or returning to a save room. Also, puzzles are present, and some are clever too, unique in some ways. I had to take some pen & papper for a few, which was nice. Another intersting point is the pocket ham radio, that will help you with clues during the game. I think it could be used more, but was a nice touch indeed. One thing that I found rather useless was the hidding mechanic, which you can crawl and avoid make any noises, but I found it not necessary in general. With plenty of recordings and notes do collect during the game secrets to find and even some hidden weapons here and there, the small nemy variety don't bother too much. A very good and fair priced experience, with multiple endings and no crashes in my 10+ hours of gameplay, I do recommend this title from Brazil.
