King's Quest 7+8

Just so you know this before you go and buy the package; Kings Quest 8: Mask of eternity has the same bugs that made it unplayable for new PC's before GOG "re-introduced" it; the game stops during a cutscene ca. 1 hour into the game. Even if you somehow found a way to owercome this by searching hours upon hours of ancient internett posts, there is still the problem om extremely low fps and a need to have an extremely old videocard to even be able to play it in 600 x 800 resolution. In other words; you might as well find your old CD-version of this game, it will work just as badly and be just as incompatible as this so called "working copy". Both nr. 7 and 8 is fun to play, just a shame we won't be able to experience nr. 8 anytime soon.

I would give this 4 stars if I didn't have to spend hours googling and experimenting to get KG8 to run. It will NOT work out of the box. Here are some tips. The most difficult puzzle of the game was getting it to run on Windows 10. Here's what I had to do... First move the game folder to your root C:\ because the GOG's default folder has too long a pathname for it to run. Next google "King's Quest 8 shim" and follow the instructions there. Next google "king's quest 8 indeo video codec" and grab and install the IV5setup there in order to watch the cutscenes. Finally change the draw method in the graphics settings to one of the options that doesn't crash for you. Phew! Worth the effort though.

It's never worked on my computer and many other peoples computers at that. GOG is aware of this issue and won't do anything to resolve it. Lucky I spent my money on this product that doesn't even work. I kept the game in hopes that the multi-million dollar corporation that is GoG would sell products that WORK and don't just take your money and laugh all the way to the bank. This is astounding at how this hasn't been fixed in YEARS since I've purchased it. This is absolutely garbage, and mostly due to the reason that I WANT TO PLAY THIS GAME SO BAD AND HAVE TRIED MANY TIMES. I don't feel like I should have to jump through hoops and download patches and do a bunch of shady nonsense to make a game that I paid money for from a REPUTABLE company. So that's my 2 cents.

For me almost a masterpiece, full of puzzles, atmosphere and exploration despite technical performances already mediocre at the time (low frame rate). When the game came out in I bought it and I didn't mind the difference with the previous point and click titles of the brand. However the title should only be played with keyboard and mouse and the control system is still awkward and tiring today. The very problem is that the version sold on GoG has big problems running with the latest operating systems (I use Windows 11), so you have to follow a (not simple) guide in order to get it running (you also need to download a fix.exe). And, anyway, the movies in AVI format don't start due to a securiy issue of Windows 11 (the solution would seem to install the game on a virtual machine: very inconvenient). There are 3 cutscenes in all, so they can only be seen outside the game (clicking their files in the game folder with a software such as VLC Mediaplayer). The second cutscene could prevent you from continuing to play because the game crashes, and the solution is to disable a certain option in the fix (in this case the movie is skipped). The game also crashes to the desktop every time you return to the game from the menu even when using the guide if you are not using the right graphics setting in the option menù. Before you can play it properly you will have to sweat. I'm sorry, the game is beautiful, I finished it, but I don't recommend buying it even during sales, until they fix the problem on GoG.

Move the game by copying it entirely to program files from program files (x86). I downloaded the KQMoE Shim but that didn't work until copied over to regular program files folder.
