Become a hero in a fantasy world of fearless knights, evil mages, wise kings and beautiful princesses. Explore the land, command armies and accomplish quests for your king to reap great rewards... Or suffer devastating defeats.
The gameplay is divided into two major sections: adventure mode and tactics mode. While playing in adventure mode you control your hero in real-time, seeking various treasures, fighting monsters and accomplishing quests tasked to you by the local stewards. Once in tactics mode you assume the role of a war chief, leading your troops in tactical turn-based combat.
Battles take place on land or sea, in dungeons or castles or even in certain items! The hero himself doesn't participate in the combat, but can assist his troops by casting spells or summoning different creatures.
Absolutely addictive gameplay closely resembling the famous Heroes of Might & Magic series
A challenging, but at the same time familiar and intuitive, combat system
Charming, well-designed locations, full of subtle details
This game is very similar to HOMM in terms of turn based battles and having your hero cross maps on a horse. You can select from 3 different classes and each class has a unique playstyle that will help your army in different ways. So playing each hero requires a different strategy. The graphics are just amazing and I am surprised GoG got this one!
I suggest that for 9.99 you are getting one hell of a game and you would be a fool to pass this one up if you like the turn based strategy style of HOMM.
The purpose of GOG is to provide games that are classics at a reasonable price and DRM free. Contrary to certain people on the forums, this is a wonderful addition to the catalog. GOG feel free to add more modern games to your library, and keep on providing us with the wonderful service and amazing games! The true successor to the Heroes of Might and Magic Series!
This was my first time playing a 4X, and the combination of it with being a CRPG was fantastic! The RPG portion was a bit scaled back, but was interesting enough to keep my interest along with the turn based combat. Can't wait to continue moving through the series! This is definitely worth your time and money!
A perfect game in many ways, this King's Bounty is a blend of questing, exploration, turn-based strategy and tactical rpg, with colorful warcraft-style graphics and a superb soundtrack. The story is hilariously good and the difficulty is well balanced, yet I recommend being wary of not losing too many units in the later battles. Gold and magic crystals are important resources, so try to invest those on troops and spells you will frequently use.
I would entirely avoid comparison with HoMM, King's Bounty is a completely different thing, though you will recognize many of the creatures and races from the same universe.
I played somewhere around 70 hours of this a while back, and just realized I've never written a review for it.
This is a light RPG with turn based tactical battles. You go around the kingdom to different islands and fight groups of monsters on a hex map, with the ultimate goal to vanquish the minor bad guys around the map and the big bad back in your home.
Very similar to a HOMM game, you build an army, and the size of your army is limited by your leadership points. Unlike a HOMM game though, you are focused completely on your one leader, instead of having towns and other characters to manage.
The turn based tactical battles can be challenging at times and easy at other times. My only complaint really is that by around 50 hours or so into the game, my character was so over powered I could basically stomp anything in the game. I even went back to the main boss, and he wasn't much of a challenge at al.. Part of this was that there's a semi-secret location where you can buy dragons, and once you fill your party with dragons and learn their abilities, you are pretty much invincible.
Despite that minor point of being able to OP your character, I really enjoyed my time with this game, and often consider starting a new playthrough. If you're looking for a relaxing but sometimes challenging tactical RPG, this might be just the thing.
