You're Henry, the son of a blacksmith. Thrust into a raging civil war, you watch helplessly as invaders storm your village and slaughter your friends and family. Narrowly escaping the brutal attack, you grab your sword to fight back. Avenge the death of your parents and help repel the invading forces!
Story:
Bohemia – located in the heart of Europe, the region is rich in culture, silver, and sprawling castles. The death of its beloved ruler, Emperor Charles IV, has plunged the kingdom into dark times: war, corruption, and discord are tearing this jewel of the Holy Roman Empire apart.
One of Charles' sons, Wenceslas, has inherited the crown. Unlike his father, Wenceslas is a naive, self-indulgent, unambitious monarch. His half-brother and King of Hungary, Sigismund the Red Fox, senses weakness in Wenceslas. Feigning good will, Sigismund travels to Bohemia and kidnaps his half-brother. With no king on the throne, Sigismund is now free to plunder Bohemia and seize its riches.
In the midst of this chaos, you're Henry, the son of a blacksmith. Your peaceful life is shattered when a mercenary raid, ordered by King Sigismund himself, burns your village to the ground. By bittersweet fortune, you are one of the few survivors of this massacre.
Without a home, family, or future you end up in the service of Lord Radzig Kobyla, who is forming a resistance against the invasion. Fate drags you into this bloody conflict and shoves you into a raging civil war, where you help fight for the future of Bohemia.
Massive realistic open world: Majestic castles, vast fields, all rendered in stunning high-end graphics.
Non-linear story: Solve quests in multiple ways, then face the consequences of your decisions.
Challenging combat: Distance, stealth, or melee. Choose your weapons and execute dozens of unique combos in battles that are as thrilling as they are merciless.
Character development: Improve your skills, earn new perks, and forge and upgrade your equipment.
Dynamic world: Your actions influence the reactions of the people around you. Fight, steal, seduce, threaten, persuade, or bribe. It’s all up to you.
Historical accuracy: Meet real historical characters and experience the genuine look and feel of medieval Bohemia.
As I can't update reviews to reflect improved experiences, I'll just note that on a PC that can play other similarly aged titles fine, this game goes from 30-40FPS down to 1-2 constantly. Looks pretty but totally unplayable therefore.
I'll now delve into the memory tuning, graphics options enabling/disabling and other possible options to get a game to work on equipment it was designed for. Course I won't be able to update this review with results. Ho hum.
The open world is beautiful, the voice acting is great, and the quests are not bad. The main character is useless in a fight though. It's pretty frustrating to play for several hours and train to fight, and road bandits wipe the floor with him. He swings a sword like it's made of lead. I just got bored and quit playing it. Maybe you have to train for five real hours a day? What's the fun in that?
- I spend 150 hours in game, if its working is one of best games in last 15 years, but..
- its not really realistic, lots of props are there, its hardcore, but realistic not - combat is not realistic, people cloth, hairstyles, real lore is flawed - not really used too much in game, just write something in some codex files is not enough..
- it not include horse vs. horse combat, not polearmrs, spears, daggers, flails etc.. throwing, bow range is joke, no crossbow, historically accurate would be some handguns and canons too (yeah i hate it too, but in 1403 they should be there or game should be from earlier age)
- i cant complete game because now its constantly crashing, because of bugs
- i tried to complete everything, i found 5 completly bugged quest and others are somehow working, but its full of glitches
- its too scripted for real open world sandbox experience
- loading screen to every small thing
- economy model is completely broken
- alchemy is way too overpowered - and it feels a lot like fantasy element, i know there are drugs in really life, but not so strong..
- you can just go through some bushes.
The world design, story, voices, and immersion are fantastic. Unfortunately every element that makes this an actual game are simply terrible. The combat system is atrocious. Playing this with a keyboard and mouse will constantly force you to drag your mouse around your desktop wildly to position it for the directional attacks. Interaction is odd, as if it was a console port, where you are constantly pressing and holding a key to make a circle complete itself to finish an action like eating an apple. Riding a horse in combat is laborious. While attempting to make it run or turn you will constantly accidentally cause it to stop running which will force you to be overrun by enemies. It's too bad that such a beautiful world has been ruined by a garbage control system and laughable combat system.
