Desktop rocket science!
I've been following KSP's development with great interest since pretty much day one. Recently the vague memories of playing around with the free version, that was available many muns ago, came back to me. I decided to get my hands on KSP during last December's GOG sale. I soon realized many, many things had improved and expanded beyond belief. Especially inspired by the KSP related content on Scott Manley's must-watch YouTube channel, I started experimenting with the game. The way things are presented is excellent and all the information provided is in-depth. Finding my way around the different hangars and buildings went like a breeze and soon I also got used to the somewhat tweaky build system. Getting my first rocket up in space was truly a delightful experience. The mix between the cartoonish looks and ‘hardcore’ rocket science is very much to my personal liking. My one and only lament is about the mods. Several sites offer countless improvements and additions to this already very comprehensive game. Their usefulness, functionality and accessibility are not always clear to me, but that's probably my problem. What's not are the compatibility issues many mods seem to suffer from. After wasting a lot of precious time in utter confusion with testing mods, I decided to stand clear of them for the time being and focus on the vanilla KSP experience and its already very extended collection of stock parts. I'm looking forward to dive into the recent DLC that adds even more functionality and tried-and-tested stock parts. Kerbal Space Program is a game and at the same time it’s not. Consider it more as a sandbox for stay-at-home wannabe rocket scientists who lack the skills to become the real thing. It’s not a title everyone will enjoy; it takes a lot of time to really get into. I believe KSP has a great future and hope to enjoy it for a long time!
