At twilight in Kentucky, as bird songs give way to the choir of frogs and insects, familiar roads become strange, and it's easy to get lost. Those who are already lost may find their way to a secret highway winding through underground caves. The people who live and work along this highway are themselves a little strange at first, but soon seem familiar: the aging driver making the last delivery for a doomed antique shop; the young woman who fixes obsolete TVs surrounded by ghosts; the child and his giant eagle companion; the robot musicians; the invisible power company lurking everywhere, and the threadbare communities who struggle against its grip.
KENTUCKY ROUTE ZERO is a magical realist adventure game in five acts, featuring a haunting electronic score, and a suite of hymns and bluegrass standards recorded by The Bedquilt Ramblers. Rendered in a striking visual style that draws as much from theater, film, and experimental electronic art as it does from the history of videogames, this is a story of unpayable debts, abandoned futures, and the human drive to find community.
Originally published episodically over a span of years, the game now includes all five acts along with the "interludes," which were originally published separately. It has also been painstakingly localized for French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Russian, and Spanish (both European Spanish and Latin American).

Not what i thought it would be. Thought it would be a nice and relaxing point & click game with an intrigiung story. I like the art syle and the first act felt nice. But then, well. Lets say that I wonder what the devs were on while making this game.
How the game playes is propably how it feels to be on drugs and I don't think the devs really wanted with the story, because it's all over the place.
So much more than a standard click-and-point game, KR0 is an experience like none other, full of odd characters that, by the final act, are more like friends or family. There is a complicated story woven through the acts, and you can guide it by your dialog choices. There is a moderate amount of replayability, as you can make different choices during certain points in the game. I was so into the characters that, once it was over, I actually felt a bit depressed. Definitely in my top 5 of all-time now!
When writing this review, it's been over a year since I played through episode 3, and I haven't finished the fourth one. The fifth episode is not even released yet. Even so, I can wholeheartedly recommend this game. Kentucky Route Zero is one of the most atmospheric, beautiful and perfect game experiences I've had. It's not for people looking for an exhilirating or challenging experience, or even an entertaining game experience as in having goals to accomplish or gameplay to master. KRZ is a cerebral, emotional and mystifying game which often feels like you're reading a book or having a dream. The music in this game is really beautiful, with ambient tracks setting the mood, and an unforgettable song appears in episode 3 (don't watch it online before you play the game). All in all, Kentucky Route Zero is a must-play, and I hope the developers continue making wonderful experiences.
The game is very light in gameplay. But it is rich in imagery and symbolism.
A good experience for when you are in a certain mindset.
The graphics are beautiful but the sound is even more fantastic.
If there was a little more gameplay we would be talking about one of the most memorable games of recent years. After all, this is still a game and should be judged according to certain expectations of the medium.
As a general experience however Kentuck Rout Zero will stay with me for some time.
3,5 stars.
if anyone could ever mold pure atmosphere into computer code, this is what it would look like.
A quiet, strange trip along some interesting characters, albeit a bit short, judging by the first episode. This is definitely something that has to be experienced firsthand to be appreciated.
