Kathy Rain

This is an adventure game rivaling Wadjet Eye quality in terms of graphics, voices (Wadjet Eye was involved in these, actually) and quality. Ultimately I get the feeling the author wanted to tell a story more than create a point & click game - there's a couple of neat puzzles, but generally they feel like roadblocks. The puzzles were my least favorite part of the game. The writing is both good and bad. At times the game sets an emotional moment, but then the voice acting changes completely from a tearful scene into Kathy talking normally, which is kind of strange. Buy on sale if you enjoy linear, story-based adventure games with high production values.

Excellent game! Even if it is a little short. Very nice setting and atmosphere . Great characters and humorous dialog. I got it on sale for $5! Very happy! Would not buy at full price though.

Kathy Rain is a point and click adventure game made with the AGS (Adventure Game Studio) engine. The game mechanics have it's own particularities but it is the similar to other game of this genre. You can think about, look and combine items in your inventory, and you also have a notebook where the important clues are wrote down, you will be able to use these to work out the next course of action and also as conversation topics. The history unfolds in the great 90's, leaded by a independent girl that studies journalism. She learns about the dead of her grandfather a decides to pay the visit she hesitated doing for many years. Her rebellious and bold spirit will make her get involved in an old strange case and help her investigate using methods that will lead her further than any cop could do when the case was open. It will be a travel to the past. I honestly love everything about this game, the art and the setting is perfect, the characters are compelling and some of them lovable, the voice acting is superb, the story makes you want to keep playing and want more, the puzzles offer a very decent challenge, not very hard if you are used to this kind of games but not extremely easy either. Playing with all that 20 year old junk was a blast and made me feel nostalgic. I really hope the dev gets enough support, i can see enough similarities with blackwell here to see it could be a successful series if it's given a chance. Acdetective is born but she needs to grown, this game is screaming for a sequel.

I had a great time playing this fabulous indi game. The developers of "Kathy Rain" did a great job making you care for the plot with good character development and quality mystery feeling. The detective work is challenging and rewarding. This is a quality point-and-click detective game. was worth buying:)

This game brilliantly weaves together a mystery and builds atmosphere. It uses fun, innovative mechanics I've never seen in an AGS game before and it's just terrific. When I heard about this game, and that it was set up for a sequel, I was suspicious that this game would end without a satisfying resolution, but that's not the case at all. I can't wait for the next one.
