Globetrotting mass murder.
This game is what would you get if you crossed the movies Heat and Commando. I imagine that the creators of this game just got done having an movie-night and thought to themselves, would it not be cool if the Heat shootout lasted about 4-6 hours? And then they just ran with it. The result, oh boy did they get the cinematics right, its a very beautiful game and the action is pretty immersive at first. You go from cool location to cool location and have a massive firefights, shooting dosins of cannon fodder opponents every time. However the story and the game design is not up for the task. Because who would run around, murdering hundreds of random guards for no particular reason, other than some really unrelatable charaters? Let me introduce you to Kane and Lynch. A mass murdering deranged mercenary and a mass murdering psycopath, but I repeat myself. The story is barely there, its not enough and everybody is a lousy human being from the outside, they even hate each other ingame so its tough getting emotionally invested in the characters. The game engine is clearly IOI's Freedom Fighters polished with updated graphics and it is not up for the task of having these big overwhelming firefights where dosins of people are shooting at each other at the same time. Its not fluid enough and the cover systems suffers when you have to engage people comming at you from 360 degrees. The cartoony tactical nature of Freedom Fighters dosen't translate too well to the cinematic realism that Kane & Lynch wants to do for most parts, its often too clunky, the AI often dosen't help enough or gets in the way. You play in third person but guns fire from the barrel so you often find yourself in an intense gunfight wondring why are the enemy not dying, just to realise oh I was actually hitting my cover the whole time. If you just want to blast away in cool locations this game is for you, if you care about the story this one is a hard sell.
