Jill of the Jungle: The Complete Trilogy

I'm sure all the 5-star reviews are the result of rose-tinted glasses for this game, as Jill has not aged well. Yes, I'm well aware of the limitations of the medium back in 1992, but when you put this up against the likes of Sonic 2, Flashback, Ecco, etc it just doesn't hold a candle. And, as far I can tell there isn't really any historic reason to play this either. Sure, there's a certain charm to the graphics and goofy sound effects, but really your time is much better spent elsewhere. At least it's free on GOG.

Jill of the Jungle was one of my first steps to PC gaming sometime around 11 yrs old. Glad to see this one available again through GOG. The puzzles aren't overly complicated (now.. ..they seemed really complicated to an 11 yr old playing on a 386), but still require some logic. Highly recommend,

So for me Jill of The Jungle was an epic childhood introduction to video games, it is a very simple metroidvania game with very odd level schemes that somehow didn't matter as I spent hours at the local library playing this as a child. Seeing as it's free I added this gem to my library, but I'd be glad to support the developer just the same!

These were my favorite PC games until my family finally upgraded our 286 in 1996. Upon replaying it for the first time in a very long time, I decided part way through my play-through to try turning off the digital sound. I was hit with a sudden nostalgia wave as I remembered that I only had a PC speaker originally. I now remember being very excited when we got the new PC because I'd finally be able to turn on the digital sound options. They were amazing when I was 10 but now they're a bit weird and annoying. I highly recommend trying this if the sounds are getting to you. It's still not a bad game for what it is after all these years. The knife mechanics are still one of the best parts of the game. Using it was a bit like riding a bicycle. 8 year old me had that thing mastered. I only ever had the first two, so it was neat to finally play the third. I'd say the third feels less polished relative to the first two. Also, a lot of trolling level design. Sure, it has a lot of design issues in hindsight, but it's games like this that got us to where we are today!

First PC game I owned. If you like platformers or classic DOS games (or both) then you'll dig this. The sound effects are absolutely meme-worthy, brings back so many memories. 5 stars because it's free, can't go wrong
