Jazz Jackrabbit Holiday Hare'95

Watch out - Jazz Jackrabbit is in town. This little bunny - with a very big gun - is on a mission to save the beloved rabbit princess, Eva Earlong, from Devan Shell and the Shellian Terrorists. He must travel through six episodes, each containing three worlds, in order to save the princess, grab some glory, and hopefully get the girl. This is an exciting high-speed, platform, action-jump'n'run adventure with animated cinematics, old-school graphics, incredible 3D bonus stages and an awesome soundtrack. Never ending excitement and fun with Jazz Jackrabbit.

I am rating this game 5 stars becouse I love this game so much that I grew up playing, this was my one and only game that I would play lots of times, this game brings me memories of the time when it was only for dos and type it in order to run games.

A classic platformer, not aged too well

I recall playing this game SO MUCH as a kid. I only had a very, very old PC with Windows 3.1 and DOS on it, with just 3 games on it. Civ 1, Wings and this one. My memories of playing this are fond, so I was excited to see it up on the site. I bought it, left it in my library for years, and now started playing it again out of the blue. I... did not enjoy it as much now. Good things for sure are the vast, elaborate and colourful levels. The music is nice with a few standout tracks, but no themes i'd actively call bad. You get a selection of 4 different weapons you can gather from the levels. I found that the differences are.. minor. There's no real difference in damage between any of them save for one, and that's only because of a technicality. One weapon has bigger hitbox than your starting weapon, one weapon bounces around, and one shoots two shots at once, which is why it does more damage than the other ones. You also get a screen nuke... which also only deals same damage as the blaster. So its kinda silly having to spam the nuke 3-4 times with some enemies to actually kill them. My biggest gripe with the game comes from the enemy placement. The game is really fast paced, but a lot of the enemies are just placed in straight up unfair spots, making it almost impossible to not end up taking damage. You can go fast, but you need to really take it slow if you want to avoid damage. And then you can still end up getting sniped by an enemy that only JUST enters the screen. I tend to play games on harder difficulties, but this one forced me to downgrade to Medium. I was not having fun on Hard (there's also Turbo but I dont enjoy the strict time limit it forces on you, so Hard is the highest i'd play even as a kid). Its bit of a shame, really. Baseline the game is very enjoyable. I was just blindsided by the perceived unfairness the game has with the enemy placement. But if you're interested in retro platforming action, yeah, i'd still recommend this.

Feeling nostalgia

When I was little, my father brought home a 586 computer with a game called Jazz Jackrabbit on it. I still remember one winter’s day—my mother served me toast spread with strawberry jam and a glass of milk on the side. I would sit there as a six-year-old, happily playing the game, feeling warm and content.

Linux Mint 17.3 and Windows 10.

I've played the GOG release of Jazz Jackrabbit Collection on both Linux Mint 17.3 (64 bit) and Windows 10. Plays fine on both OSes. The games run via DOSbox, which is to be expected and allows for great compatibility. Both the Windows and Linux versions work well with XInput controls, which is fine for Logitech F (F310) series and Xbox 360 controllers. The gameplay is fast and very fluid. The graphics, despite their age, are vivid. The level design is very clever - challenging without being cheap. This little collection is very much worth owning. On the downside: $10 is a bit much for a game this old and the menu screen in the Linux version can be a bit buggy.
