Description
1933 will go down in the history books as the year America passed the 21st Amendment to the Constitution. The Prohibition is over. To the delight of millions, alcohol can now flow freely across the thirsty land. Two days before the official announcement, bars and clubs across the land are stocking up on quality whiskey.

This is the enthralling story of a scruffy but shrewd private investigator who, by an unfortunate mixture of circumstances, becomes the prime suspect in a mysterious murder case. Jack now has only 48 hours to slip the noose and find the real offender. The sands of time are rapidly running out and Jack has to unravel the mysterious plot he now finds himself caught up in the middle of.
  • Eye catching hand-drawn animated graphics
  • A classic film noir atmosphere with a great musical score
  • State-of-the-art voice acting

Not much of a classic

I played this game as a child and I have fond memories of it, but now, when I'm older and know some stuff, I can see the game's flaws. Few major mistakes were made when creating it: - gameplay is annoying: most of the time you don't know what to do and why, so you roam the available area and click here and there trying to pick up things. There is no hidden design, that could push the player in right direction. Riddles are kinda stupid (you can't use a broom to lower a ladder, but you can use a crank), you often collect items that are not needed for anything (sic!) and, worst of all, Jack sometimes steals the items he needs or hurt other people to get them (I don't know what developers were thinking, really) - cutscenes are not that bad, but one issue is making them hard to stand: before scene changes you have to wait until a character leaves the frame, event if he's not present later. It's really annoying. Also, the introduction is far too long, making you say: let me play the game already! - options UI is ugly, and in-game UI is poorly implemented and designed, so you often end up not knowing which mouse button to press and you're just clicking them randomly until you do, what you wanted to do - visuals are so-so, not the worst, but also not very good: animations are weak and locations feel empty The best thing in this game is music, which is really brilliant and sometimes, when you manage to forget about all the annoying stuff, you can feel the mood of the era in which the game takes place. But it's not enough to make you stick with it and forget, that it is in fact a poor piece of computer entertainment.

Why without soundtrack?

The game is a classic for me. I played it (and liked it) 15 years ago when it was just released. I especially remember the great soundtrack by Harold Faltermeyer (same that wrote music for The Beverly Hills Cop) which was even released on CD. And my question is - why is this soundtrack not a bonus, even that it'd be obvious addition to the gog release? I would gladly buy it for 6 dollars for the sountrack only...

Remember to save often

The game has very nice hand drawn visuals for its year of release and superb music. These two things make up great atmosphere of 1930's. Unfortunately, the thing where the game falls short are puzzles. Some have irrational solutions and there are no real clues what to do. For example there's absolutely no indication you'll get some needed info if you give a newspaper to a bellboy. Nothing he does or says indicates he's craving for something to read. And there are many more such situations so you need to try everything on everything and everyone. The fact many items are just unusable trash and occasional pixel hunting makes it even more frustrating. And As I've said already, save often because there are many situations in which you can die in the game. It's a relic from days long gone when these flaws were common in adventure games and I don't think it's fair to judge it by contemporary measure. That's why my rating is higher that it would be if Jack Orlando were released today.

Some features excellent!

Well, obviously the game is simple however contains absolutely impressive theme composed by Faltermeyer. There is something in it, the atmosphere, the feeling.
