Description

Iron Danger is a tactical combat game with a unique time manipulation mechanic. A never before seen combination that combines the tactical depth of turn-based games with the exciting action of real-time games.

Tackle challenging encounters with your party of two characters, using a variety of skills and highly interactive environments.

Maybe you will set an enemy on fire and kick them into a grain field for a proper barbeque, or set up a trap and fell a tree on top of them. The options are endless and it is you who will be deciding your own approach!

You have control over time

The core of Iron Danger is its unique time control mechanic. You can rewind time for up to 5 seconds whenever you want, trying different strategies and combinations of moves until you find the right one for the task at hand.

The time manipulation allows us to combine real-time combat gameplay with controls from more traditional, tactical turn-based combat games. This gives tactical combat a puzzle-like element, as you can continuously keep trying new approaches to turn impossible odds to your advantage and synchronize the actions of your characters for the perfect outcome.

You will die, but you will not fail!

Iron Danger is set in a world of lofty fells, primeval forest, and placid lakes... as well as living gods and monsters of steel. The city of Kalevala, home of the humans who rebelled against the gods and forsook their protection, shines in the middle of this world, surrounded by towns, sea lanes and and woodlands under its protection.

But from the frozen north, a witch queen is leading her army on a quest for vengeance against the lords of Kalevala. Ancient ruins from the days when gods dwelled on the earth are opening to unleash forgotten powers, tempting humans and striving to overtake the world.

You’ll take on the role of Kipuna, a sharp-witted village girl, who becomes imbued with an ancient power that grants dominion over time and death. You must use your wits to control it as you’re drawn into the midst of a war between the city of Kalevala and the armies of the Northlanders driven by their witch queen Lowhee.

Your task is to master the power, in order to use it for mankind’s protection, while your enemies will seek to harness it in the service of total destruction.

  • Use unique time-rewind mechanics and experience a new take on tactical combat combining best aspects of real-time and turn-based combat.
  • Use highly interactive environment for your advantage to succeed against impossible odds.
  • Adventure in a world of steampunk fantasy and meet its unique inhabitants inspired by Finnish folklore.
  • Fight epic boss monsters on the path to fulfill your destiny.
  • No grinding; character progression pace is controlled by the story and every fight matters.
  • 15+ hours of gameplay

Rather short and buggy

As the videos shows and others already said, the whole game revolves around the time rewind concept, which is really cool and while not exactly unique, isn't used too often in other games. (I remember Braid and The Sands of Time using a similar approach - but those were platformers and this one is more of a light-weight combat-oriented tactical RPG). Alas, that means that there is no saving available during a level - at all. Nor are there any checkpoints. You have to finish each level in one go. Is it getting really late at night and you need to get up early in the morning? Well ... tough luck! You either finish what you started or quit now and you'll need to restart the whole level again (some levels can easily take a couple of hours to finish)... Worse than that - twice I finished a whole level, yet the exit icon never appeared. So I had to replay them again completely. There are complaints on forums that some people even had to replay them *multiple* times, before the end-of-level event actually triggered. Speaking of bugs - these aren't the only ones: characters are some times unable to pick up items (e.g. grenades) or are suddenly unable to use some of their abilities (e.g. the remotely operated robot unable to kick/punch). And so on. All this is known to developers - for years now. Yet, they never fixed it, which leaves a bitter aftertaste... The story and characters are quite cliche, as some people mention, but that didn't bother me. It fits okay with the game. Unfortunately the whole thing is rather short and ends on a cliff-hanger - promising a sequel, which we'll probably never see... Bottom line: I like the whole concept and quite understand that it probably lacked funding for professional polish. It's worth playing and if you dig the whole idea, do give it a go. Still can't give it five stars though. I'd say about 3.5 - yet since it's an indie title, I'll gladly round it up to four.

A bit too casual

Some fights feel like puzzles and it's great, the whole combat system is really innovative and fresh, but in the end the game presents no challenge. The story isn't bad, but it's nothing remarkable either. Solid 7/10

Great game with tactical pause & rewind

In Iron Danger, every second counts. Often, a literal split-second decision is the difference between life and death. Even on Adventurer (easy), enemies can quickly strip away large portions of your health. You can quickly undo that with a few steps back in time, but you need to plan carefully to overcome your foes. Thus, Iron Danger encourages you to experiment with each character's wide array of abilities, and how they interact with each other and the environment. The story isn't anything revolutionary, but it certainly held my attention, helped by interesting characters and excellent voice acting. Music is great. All in all, a fantastic game. Absolutely recommend it.

Rushed and un-optimized, but still fun

This title is definitely rushed, but still a fun game to play. Expect the following: * VERY badly optimized game. (I had to turn it down to 30 FPS manually in Nvidia system control center to avoid onstant PC fan activity and overheating of my graphics card!) * No better equipment item collection - just useables, like healing items and grenades e.g. lying around the battlefield to pick up. * No EXP-farming, your characters level up alternately after each mission - there's no point in clearing a battlefield. * No character selection. During the plot you get access to several characters with different skills, but do not expect to be able to select which ones to take to mission. The game decides for you. * Despite all the negatives, the game's still fun to play as it introduces a very unique time-mechanic to turn-based tactics. Think of it as a constantly active 'Save-Scum' function with 2 seperated time-lines for each of your 2 characters. So the most important part of the game - combat - is incredible fun, well executed and will make you keep playing. Opinion: Worth a buy when on sale!

Real happy here

I enjoyed the unique time mechanic alot. Yeah it's got some bugs, in one case game breaking. Luckily that was solved with a reload. Story is passable, albeit predictable. Voice acting is pretty good tho! Also the Auralith, the divine entity that keeps blessing you with new powers, is very well designed. I was really impressed by her. A game like Iron Danger really needs a sequel to explore the time mechanic further. I'd say it's worth wading through some BS to find the fun here, especially if you can get the game for a deep discount.
