The perfect blend of Meteor and Splinter Cell with great weapon customization options and stealth action. The story is good too, and the game leaves you with a hunger for more. Either this is not your cup of tea or one of the best games you've played this year, depending on your taste. A well-crafted game none-the-less.

Very fun game especially if you like stealth. Though playing on hard the solution to most problems and obstacles ends up being "sprint up to that guy and punch him before he can react" though i suppose its like mgsv in that regard. Game doesn't make it obvious how to conceal your weapons. I go into the club mission with only a concealable pistol and everyone somehow notices even when holstered. idgi
The best possible stealth gameplay when constricted to 2 dimensions. There is a problem trying to see enemies far off in the distantance, but is compensated for with good level design. Just wish the story was more like Splinter Cell, with good guys fighting bad guys, not criminals fighting criminals. Could do without the extremely vulgar dialog as well.
I have played a lot of stealth and immersive sim games, and this is amazing, the 2d graphics is really good and the all the interaction you can do and the numerous way to achieve your goals are always interesting to discover and execute.
Yes, yes, yes! This is the kind of value for money I'm looking for in a game. IV2 brings a wave of fun carnage in the shape of a 2D game. If you are familiar with the Hotline Miami series you can instantly draw a picture of what you're getting, only this one has a simpler story, a bit of looter-shooter mechanics, loadouts, and less cartoony graphics. What truly sets them apart for me is how the IV series lays emphasis on stealth, but still leaves the door open for massive shootouts.
IV2 ships with quite a lot of content. In addition to the main story, we get a much shorter "Mercenarism" campaign where you play as a side-character from the main story, and a map editor. What's more, the game supports mods and you can customise the difficulty adjusting and tweaking as you please, giving it significant replay value. Took me about 20 hours to complete the main campaign, so for £12 I think we're peachy.
The story itself is simple, you play as Sean, a person whose arm's been twisted into becoming a hitman. His father is kidnapped and teaming with Steve (main character in the first game) he will try to get him back in one piece... or more, who knows! While the plot won't win any academy awards, it manages to keep the player's interest throughout. I do wish the script were slightly better, though; some dialogues didn't really add much other than gratuitous swearing, and quite frankly, some felt like a waste of time. The main selling point of the game is its gameplay in any case. You will be tasked with reaching characters or specific areas on each level. While you'll have no GPS to guide you to the - literal - X on the map, the bird's eye view will help you see what's ahead of you and plan accordingly. You can choose between a stealthy play-style, loud, all guns blazing approach, or a mixture of both; it's down to you how you tackle each challenge.
Something I thought was a very good choice from the developer is the need to buy attachments and find blueprints to install certain mods on some of the weapons; this encourages the player not to just go for the objective, but also thoroughly explore the map searching for unlockable guns, money, blueprints, and Taylor Swift's diamond-encrusted underwear.. because, believe me, you will need all of these to fully upgrade each weapon. Any guns that you don't own will become available if you exfiltrate with it, so it's in your best interest to leave the mission with any goodies you've found that you don't already own. Of course, you can't extract with 3ARs, 4 SMGs and 3 pistols; you only have space for a main weapon and a side-arm so you'll have to decide what you want the most.
The weapon variety is fantastic. You have from bolt action rifles, to SMGs, shotguns, ARs and even the almighty As Val. Plenty of pistols and a knife for the stealthy player, and a boatload of gadgets to get by. The EMP gun to temporarily disable lights, gas grenades to put enemies to sleep, frag grenades, a noise-making gadget to distract guards... You certainly are not short of options. Speaking of guards, the enemy AI is brilliant. Their behaviour depends on the difficulty level, but these are some of their skills: they can spot missing people, react to thumps and other suspicious sounds (such as reloading your weapon next-door), remember doors that should be closed, and many more. In addition, their behaviour during gunfights is phenomenal. Say you kill a few people in a corridor, the next enemies will choose to not go there and taunt you to come out instead. I've had enemies run away because they were being overwhelmed. On the times I was the one under a lot of pressure, they've chosen to push me and take me down, or even wait outside of a vent because they knew I was in there and there were only 2 exits! Bloody amazing, if you ask me.
Overall, I can't really make any truly negative remarks about IV2. I had a blast playing it and I really hope the developer brings us a new sequel in the future. 9/10
