Description
We’ve been under attack for 10 years now. Every 6 months the Skorn arrive, set on destroying our planet, and now few of us remain to defend what’s left. The massive Ark ships we’ve built in hopes of escaping them have all gone, save one. You must take the role of Captain of our final vessel, the Ark 13, and guide a hand-picked, but inexperienced crew on a journey fraught with intrigue and danger. The fate of the Endurance Coalition is uncertain and you could well be our last hope. How will you fare once you set out Into the Stars?

Into the Stars is an open-world Space Survival Simulation built in Unreal Engine 4, featuring an original score from Jack Wall.

Take the role of Captain as you explore a massive star system in search of a new home for humanity. Outfit your ship, hand pick your crew and set off on a journey where you must scavenge resources, shelter civilians and either outrun, or outgun a hostile alien force, in order to survive.
  • Complete Control: Take command of your hand-picked, but inexperienced crew, and guide them through a star system packed with mystery and danger. Difficulty Settings allow you to tune the intensity of the enemy threat and the pace of your journey.
  • Explore a Massive Star System: You have the freedom to set your course for salvation, but no approach is free from peril. Each of the 90 zones in this system present unique opportunities, along with challenges, and only you can find the path to success.
  • Challenging volley-based Combat: A number of foes, who are unwilling to negotiate, await you on this voyage. That's why your ship is equipped with weapon systems that speak for the human race, in a language everyone can understand. Choose your target points, battle stations and crew wisely, if you want to survive numerous alien encounters.
  • Music by Jack Wall: Driven by an original score from the legendary composer behind the music for Mass Effect, Call of Duty and Lost Planet.
  • Replayability: Every decision you make as Captain, and every randomly generated obstacle the crew encounters, can affect the outcome of a mission, creating a different experience, every time you play.

Interesting concept, faulty execution

I backed this game on Kickstarter because it looked to be a fun game, I was wrong. Unfortunately it is boring, Boring with tedious intermissions and some combat. If you find slowpaced games with a lot of downtime doing not much except assigning officers to auto completing events on the ship, then this is the game for you. The game has too many tedious things to do: go to a planet, pick one of 3 options: go on an expedition, go on a mining expedition or use a drone to mine. The drone is automatic, the mining expedition is a avoidance minigame, and the regular expedition is a random chance with 3 options that appear to have the same chance of success and with no explanation of what the picks do. The ship combat is simple to the point of frustrating when you have more than one opponent. You must attack the opponent with 2 weapons on fixed cooldowns and you must avoid the enemies attack. To attack enemies you must choose a weapon colour that is different than the enemies shield in order to penetrate it. And to avoid enemies attack you must choose the same colour shield as the enemies shot to completely negate the damage, or use an avoid ability which makes your ship jump to a 45 degree angle and it then recenters before you can use you own attack, Shield and avoid are also on a cooldown, so with more than 2 opponents you can get royally screwed. Most of your modules on the ship use at least one of 5 ressources, and you must approach planets to mine them for these ressources in order to not loose functionallity of those systems. However you have a total max amount of ressources you can have at a time. And furthermore your ship has an actual city on its back which start with 10.000 population, this city has a lot of problems which must be handled by your crew, which means that there is an incident which require you to pick one of your crew to deal with it in order to stop it negative effect. I would like to write more, but I am out of characters

I Want to Like It...

But I don't. This game is unfinished, there's no real way to get around that; it is not ready for sale and has game breaking bugs. Into the Stars puts you in the captain's chair of a space ship tasked with humanity's survival against a relentless alien threat that will pursue you without mercy. Sounds cool right? Well this is more of a space oil rig simulator as you're just collecting and using resources, hoping to find some uninteresting upgrades that are merely linear improvements over what you have now, and sending your crew down to planets and through the ship to deal with problems. There are no meaningful decisions to be made in this game as an event with three choices have the same chance of success. Navigation is tediously slow and combat is as exciting as watching your avatar's arms rest on their chair. Haven't been able to finish the game either because it keeps crashing and deleting my save file. TL;DR This game is unfinished and released with massive bugs still present. An interesting concept with an inherently flawed and boring core game play loop.

Don't bother

A mediocre, abandoned game. I backed it on Kickstarter, lured in by the promises of a good game, and was fooled, like many. I waited all this time, after trying it just after release, hoping they'd patch it because it was barely playable. then I simply forgot about it. Over a year later, I discovered it again. it is abandoned. no updates, no fixes. Don't bother.

Would be great without gamebreaking bugs

Imagine you're half way there to the finish and then due to bugs your population begins to die out and due to bugs there's no way to stop it. Frustrating? Hell yes. And won't be fixed because it's several years old abandonware (perfect name of developers: Fugitive... lol).

It could've been a great game...

...in a different reality. Where do I start with this one... well, first of all you should click on the "Begin" button in order to quit the game. It's a signal the game gives from the start. Other reviews here are true - the game process is monotonous and repetitive. But what is the worst is the amount of random - it is way too much. You can pick just 6 crew mates from the start and then you send three of them to the surface of the planet, order them to explore a site and one of them gets suddenly gets killed. And you don't seem to have a way to resurrect or replace the guy. This all means you have way less control over what happens to your ship or your crew than you'd like to. There is no strategy pretty much or even things like tactics. The almighty random beats it all. And the story is kinda boring. I'd really like to love the game but I can't. And it's a pity as it looks like this game was loved by its developers.
