Into the Breach

Rich Evans would love this game

The review title is not supposed to imply that the gameplay is like FTL. It is made by the same developers, though. When I say that it has the same sort of challenge, I mean that Into the Breach offers the players the same tactics-focused edge-of-your-seat experience as does FTL. The game revolves around short bite-sized battles on a small tile-based map. Your goal? Take your three mechs and protect the civilian buildings. The game is more forgiving, in that every playthrough can be shorter than in FTL. There is also an easy mode, which FTL only received after a couple of patches, if I recall correctly. I love the game. It is very thoroughly polished and if there is one thing i would have to criticise it's that the pixel-art, while pretty, might be a little too plain for some people. Go play it. It is worth every penny.

You won't regret it.

This game has no RNG in its combat. You know exactly where you and your enemies are going to hit and how much damage will be dealt on hit and what effects will be applied(fire, acid etc.). And maybe this is the reason I spend 30 min on one map, carefully reviewing my options and trying to plan things to the best of my ability. In order to keep the game fresh and to have replayability value there is RNG in the mech pilots you are given and the equipment you have access to. The maps are also randomly generated. For me this is the right kind of RNG, the rules of the game are always the same but the equipment you use and the maps you play on will differ from playthrough to playthrough. The soundtrack is also excellent. This game is not FTL 2, it is not even remotely related to FTL but is awesome nonetheless.

Awesome game! The difficulty scales very well. Easy is very beginner friendly and hard is always a challenge. Not as good as FTL (10/10 in my opinion) but still one of the best new games out at the moment
