Description
Rif of the Fox Tribe has traveled far from home with his companion Rhene to compete in a puzzle contest. The night before the contest someone steals the wondrous Orb of Storms, an ancient relic of the Humans, and Rif is accused of being the thief. Rif is able to convince his accusers to give him a chance to find the real thief and recover the Orb. Two warriors are assigned to assist and guard Rif in his quest, Eeah of the Elk Tribe and Okk of the Boar Tribe. In addition, Rhene is held hostage by the Boar King to ensure Rif does not try to escape.

Your goal in Inherit the Earth: Quest for the Orb is to guide Rif on his adventure, find clues to locate the real thief, and solve challenges along the way. You can have Rif talk to Okk, Eeah, and other Morph characters that are encountered during Rif's travels. Rif can pick-up items he finds and give these items to others. Some will only trade information for precious items, although what a Morph considers precious can vary greatly. With your help, Rif will be able to clear his good name and rescue his beloved in this classic point-and-click fantasy adventure game!
  • Take part in interactive conversations that let you influence the outcome of the story.
  • Solve dozens of challenging puzzles while enjoying a unique musical score.
  • Over four hours of digitized speech and a beautiful art style.

Ok, but didn't age that well

It's an ok little anthropomorphic Furry adventure game, basically a very important orb has been stollen by a villain, and you are tasked with getting it back. It is a neat little story, however I just didn't feel like in 2024 it was worth the 5 hours of gameplay and story for something you could have done with a 20 minute animated short or a 10 page comic strip (p.s. there is a sequel comic strip in black and white by the devs after the ending: inherittheearth .net/comic.shtml?0001) I also just played it for free after buying it here on ScummVM because the fullscreen was actually full screen there, unlike here where it's 80% black bars and just a small box in the middle. Which will bring us to the biggest criticism I had that is, also in ScummVM version, that you can only see like 10 feet in front of u a really small FoV, which is really tedious. I would recommend just using the guide which comes with it right away if you don't know what to do next where to go next to enjoy it more like a story mode than an actual find the pixel in the haystack adventure with 90s graphics. I also got it for like 1$ so for me it was worth the price, wouldn't get it for 5$ or whatever original price is however.

One of the most Memorable Settings Ever

Great game, controls and most of the quests are pretty standard but the setting stays with. Animal Kingdoms on the ruins of humanity. Few good twists in the story as well. The biggest problem with the old one was an inability to complete the game if you lost the manual as it tests you to quote the manual at one point, but with everything being digital that shouldnt be a problem any more.

...To be continued

Was the only part that I really didn't like about it, I was quite sad that I never saw a sequel, then I discovered that a sequel is being planned now(just google Inherit the Earth, it's a comic strip, and check the FAQ) So if you're a point and click fan and are thinking to leave this game off your list to play solely cause you heard it ended on a cliffhanger, that issue may be resolved sometime in the future, hopefully the near future. But honestly this was one of my favorite titles growing up and even though many say that it could have been better i thought and still think that what it is is still a great game and with kickstarter and all that if the sequel does make it passed the initial planning/design, without those pesky bigwigs saying "tone it down it's a kids' game" then the sequel can be what ItE:QftO wasn't.

FRESH AND FUN!

Inherit the Earth is a pretty nice adventure, graphically well conceived and with a continuous interest from the very first mouse click. We control Reef, a fox on a quest to find out who stole the Orb of Storms from its resting place. Accused of being involved in the disappearance of this mystic item, Reef will have to bring the author of the theft while his girlfriend is held captive as a guarantees of his return. For that, Reef will count with two other companions during the game, one from the Boar tribe and other from the Elk tribe. Together, in order to advance in the adventure, they will have to cooperate in all senses to overcome puzzles; talk to characters, pick up objects, deal with their differences. Inherit the Earth is an dventure in the style of any classic Lucas Arts games, presenting an interesting mix of both 2D and isometric graphics. Atmosphere is well achieved and can deliver a good time all along. It's not hard nor too long, but it's a game that can be played anytime, more than once. It has aged very well and still is as fresh now as when it was originally published. Totally recommended!
