Great game!

I've always liked the mechanics & lore of the i-war franchise(A blend of The Expanse & Babylon 5), and i-war 2 stayed faithful to them. The game's interface is far slicker than its precursors, but at the cost of some of the quirky immersive charm. Story & characters are again not up to the quality of its precursors, but to compensate you get a (limited) sandbox to explore. In terms of graphics, it's aged quite well, though that's quite common for space games. Not sure what all the fuss is about difficulty; I don't recall it being especially hard when I played it back in the day (I completed it). Though I may have been forced to use cheesy kiting tactics. It's certainly not as difficult as the freeware "Babylon 5: I've Found Her"; a must play for anyone who loves B5! (and extreme difficulty)

Graphical issues

Great game but if you have Windows 7 and an nVidia card don't expect it to work. As of writing this there are no fixes for it. Makes for a mildly frustrating purchase.

Fails as sequel, standalone, game

I-War 1 was a take on the Freespace formula of linear, scripted missions to form a narrative space combat campaign. The difference being you were now controlling a corvette instead of a fighter, while (mostly) obeying the laws of Newtonian physics. It had some significant stumbling blocks (some horrendously unfair difficulty in parts, plus a near crippling lack of checkpoints when restarting long missions), but I overall enjoyed the experience. A good story and some well thought out mission design. I-War 2 takes that and turns it into an open world Elite/Privateer experience with a terrible story about cartoonishly evil corporations and rescuing the princess (no, really) before completely giving up at the end. The story is something to be suffered through and only be worth it if the gameplay was really, really good. It isn't. No thought was put into making the open world system work. Hostility triggers are broken. AI traffic is broken (your best option for pirating is to simply wait by warp gates until the AI of 2 cargo ships inevitably crash into each other to explode and spill their cargo everywhere, which you can scoop up without triggering the police). The economy is broken, to the point that there is no system of currency and all transactions in this far future interstellar society are done on the barter system. Each purchase requires specific items to be traded, and you have to luck out picking up exact items to trade. It's not commerce, it's a crafting system. And a terrible one. In essence, I-War 2 is all the bad of I-War 1 with none of the good. The story missions are padded out with broken open world grinding filler, and the story was written by a 12 year old. Avoid.

Great game!

Graphically outdated, obviously, but still a good game. Bit hard to get to run though. Problems I encountered: Game wants Play Disc - Solvable by mounting any img-file directly in Windows 10. No Third Party software needed, just right click an img-file, it has a mount option. Crash upon starting a game: Run EdgeOfChaos.exe instead of using the GOG-Shortcut. https://i-war2.com has a bunch of absolutely priceless mods (Custom Jafs!) and controller profiles that massively reduce the amount of tinkering required.

Little support

It starts with the fact that you need either a DVD player, or a virtual DVD player to play Single Player. Then there is the random crashes after leaving the hanger. This 'might' be a good game, but I will never know. The frustration of trying to get it to run is just not worth it. You shouldn't have to mod a game to try and get it to play.
