Ever since picking up her wrench, the world has been going nuts and she's wanted to bolt it back together. Now Penance is raining down on everyone she loves and One Concern agents are after her.
But something big is going on – bigger than droughts of Ivory fuel and personal conflicts – and Robin’s in the thick of it.
Iconoclasts is the masterwork of indie developer Joakim Sandberg, seven long years in the making. Iconoclasts delivers awesome action, hilarious hijinks and an emotional rollercoaster of deeply personal storytelling.
Hours of nut-twisting platform action-adventure
Numerous densely detailed locations filled with fine-tuned action and puzzles
20+ gear-grinding, screen-filling boss battles stand in your way
Three game-changing difficulty settings supported by a unique tweak system
A heart-wrenching epic – can one mechanic fix the whole world?
Graphics are good, controls are tight and sound/music is on point. Iconoclasts is a solid metroidvania that focuses more on puzzles and a lot of bang for the buck when it comes to world size.
I think it stands out the most with its dark and intricate lore.
It'd be 5 stars but the game is a bit slow in giving abilities, you only get a few throughout the game and the tweak system is a bit lackluster.
A very fun game with a very colorful world to explore. Puzzle elements, and Metroidvania style, but some weird executions of boss fights. Would recommend to anyone looking for a puzzle platformer. Not too short, not too long, just right.
I only intended to play for a 2 hour stream on my Twitch channel I ended up playing for 6 hours when you get addicted to a game that is a sign the game designer did something right. So kudos Joakim great job.
Great sound design! Enjoyable graphics and presentation. But the stuff that matters most is gameplay and story. It's no Undertale or Hollow Knight. All the makings and components of good story and gameplay are here but it doesn't really pull them together well.
The story clearly had a lot of thought put into it, but it feels like it was written by a person where English is not their first language and they are speaking to you underwater. Many things are not presented, concluded, or otherwise explained/implied well. Some dialogue is misleading, tone deaf, or simply bizarre, with many contrived events and detours. There are WAY too many unlikable characters because of their near constant hypocrisy and a few unforgivable actions you are expected to ignore. I'd list it all but GOG doesn't have enough space.
By far the worst character is also the clear favorite, Agent Black. The game tries to tell you they are a tragic figure (even has a boss fight in the rain with sad music to match), but that's only quite some time AFTER you have seen them commit numerous and personal evil atrocities, so it fails completely. It pulled the Abby mistake from Last of Us 2 before LoU2.
Gameplay is alright. Simple, but it never truly takes off, tests you or cuts you loose. It's mostly puzzles, even the bosses. Some annoying enemies due to invincibility modes forcing you to basically wait. Finding secrets, moves like cranking power posts and ziplining are fun and satisfying. However, the rewards are bad. You find materials for the game's badge system but almost none of the badges are any good. That makes exploration a bit of a let down.
While it looks good, during some boss combat, it can be VERY cluttered. Characters, screenshake, dialogue boxes, sfx, numerous projectiles (some bad and don't stand out properly) all distracting and obscuring you while you try to figure out what to do. Some bad hitboxes too: can be hit by some bosses while nothing is touching you and you are behind them.
Nice pixel-art but very repetitive gameplay, pretty simple story and ok music. I doubt I will finish it someday. Recent Steam World Dig 1-2, Hollow Knight is like far more superior than this game.
