Description
There's no room for error when travelling at the speed of light, racing through star systems in a desperate search for a new world to house Mankind. But there are plenty of opportunities for mistakes. Alien races of every conceivable size, shape, temperament and sophistication seek to aid, use, corrupt or destroy you - and you don't know which.

Sure, your starship is 15,000 feet long and armed with remote-controlled fightercraft, kamakazi fighters, a devestating plasma gun and high-tech probes, but will all that firepower be against The Stentor, rithless time-travelling space pirates, or the colossal energy beings known as The ZOR?

Perhaps diplomacy is the answer. The Cicisbeo are vain and arrogant - perhaps that ego can be worked to your advantage. The broodmasters are sinister, manipulative and seek universal domination, but are they a little too eager?

Perhaps something can be gained from shrewd trading. But that will be tough against the ever-seeking, ever-hungry Collectors, keepers of the Museum of Time; not to mention the supra-intelligent Jot, who control the minds of everyone nearby.

Whatever choices you make, make them quickly. You're moving at Hyperspeed - second thoughts could be fatal.

Good game, not for everyone

This is a space sim akin to star control you are tasked with finding humanity a new home in one of four starclusters, to do this you must find a suitable planet, find enough of the four resources the colony will need and destroy any threats in the sector. the game is basically a set of disguised puzzles. Combat puzzles: each alien race has their own tactics and quirks, be it spawning more fighters or having a shield emitter you have to destroy with fighters, each race is different trade puzzles: not only trading for better components with which to fully kit your ship but trading for the colony resources you need. political puzzles: not really relevant in the first cluster but every other cluster has some kind of hierarchy or caste system. for example one sector has three factions in an uneasy stalemate which your presence may destabilize. Each sector gets trickier and the risk of getting stuck in an unwinnable situation becomes bigger, which is why I say it's not for everyone. you really have to take your time and think things through, but if you have the patience this game is pretty fun

My childhood

Damn my brother got this game when I was a kid. Played the hell out of it. The premise is simple, upgrade your ship with alien technologies, collect resources, interact with aliens; fight them or trade with them and become their ally. What captivated me is the space combat. It's nothing to write about it's very basic, but yet quite satisfying. Each alien is very distinctive and act differently in a combat. Some alien ships have weak spots like in a boss fight, some will launch smaller fighters against you, etc. As I remember, my brother conquer the whole star system, but the game still continues. I didn't finish the game, as I just enjoy the simplistic space combat action. Is the game worth to buy though? For me, most likely not. as It may not be as awesome as I remember it was, most likely don't age well. For those who never played it? Well if you're okay with quirky 90's contols gameplay and esthetics or you're just specifically looking for 90s game, this game is really stand out on its own. There's nothing like it so far. Maybe superceeded by Freelancer and elite (I never got my hands on both Elite and Elite Dangerous), with better ship/fighter upgrades, trading and job hunting. But still you won't find the boss fight like combat anywhere within the modern space combat/trading games. At least in Freelancer all you fight is generic space pirates or rebels that behave just like any other generic space fighters. Not in this game though. Oh I do wish this game is remastered or remaked for the modern era (along with Covert Action). There're simply no games like them today.

A very solid title

This is a game with depth, humor, and polish, especially for the time in which it was created. The combat is varied and interesting, with each race behaving in a different fashion and requiring different tactics. Each different species has a different psychology and motivation. Different sectors provide a variety of webs of political relationships to be worked through. Each sector can be solved in different ways based on the player's choices. In a lot of ways, it reminds me of Star Command 2, but with 3D ship interactions. It is a retro game, so go into it with appropriate expectations. But if you can appreciate that, and if you have an eye to see the real effort and artistry put into this title, you won't be disappointed.

My Childhood

So, I discovered this POLYGON GEM two YEARS before StarFox on the SNES, and it has always been a wonderful game. It shaped my childhood in many ways. It's lovely to relive it.
