Explore a beautiful, vast and ruined world riddled with dangers and lost technologies. Echoes of a dark and violent past resonate throughout a savage land, steeped in treasure and blood. Hyper Light Drifter is an action adventure RPG in the vein of the best 16bit classics, with modernized mechanics and designs on a much grander scale.
Drifters of this world are the collectors of forgotten knowledge, lost technologies and broken histories. Our Drifter is haunted by an insatiable illness, traveling further into the lands of Buried Time, hoping to discover a way to quiet the vicious disease.
From each character to subtle background elements, everything is lovingly hand-animated.
Easy to pick up, difficult to master; enemies are vicious and numerous, hazards will easily crush your frail body, and friendly faces remain rare.
Upgrade weapons, learn new skills, discover equipment and traverse a dark, detailed world with branching paths and secrets abound.

This is a fantastic game, great action, mysterious story, and unbelievable soundtrack. The 'however' on PC though is that I have to continually restart the game as it eventually lags / slow downs after encountering busy areas that it makes it impossible to fight.
I have tried changing resolution, looking in config files but always will get slow down after 20-30mins.
This shouldn't happen on a high end gaming PC. I wish the Devs had optimised it more.
The animation and level design in this game is magnificent. But the combat isn't an after thought either with difficult combat which makes the rewards all the more whorth while. If you were a fan of the top down zelda games on the SNES/GBA then this is a refined work of art taking that stye to new heights.
There is a lot to like here. It is one of those indie games that really does everything right, and has managed to build an identity for itself. I played this in multiplayer co-op mode and it was awesome!
The game plays like an old school adventure game like The Legend of Zelda, it features with minimal dialogue and text, you are supposed to explore the world and collect modules, keys, skill points, as well as lost technology that can help you get stronger, unlock doors and new paths.
The combat system is simple, but difficult. You have a sword combo and you can dash to get close or away from enemies. There is no parry system. You unlock more abilities but they're mostly for attack and defense, not for traversal or platforming.
It's probably one of the best showcases of modern day pixel art that I have ever seen. There really is no other way to put it.
The soundtrack of this game is simply magnificent. It is instrumental, environmental, with a mix of electronic sounds that merge seamlessly and provides the game with an atmosphere unique to it.
In modern days, there are other indies that have surpassed some of its elements and design choices, but I think it deserves a playthrough nonetheless.
The game is difficult, but not as much as something like Hollow Knight or Silksong. However, some of the bosses and hitboxes can be a little janky, so there will be some times where you will get hit when it looks like you avoided the attack, and there will be times where the attack is touching the enemy, but they don’t lose hitpoints.
The chain-dashing mechanic is rather finnicky, and there’s some challenges that are a pain to do, but they are never essential to complete the main game, so I think it’s alright.
Overall, I am glad I finally got to play this game, and given how short it is, I am probably going to revisit it and try to beat it by myself sometime.
