Description
Hunter Girls is a runner game in which you will control three heroines: the warrior Agnes, the sorceress Flora, and the archer Kim. Each has its own abilities, and to defeat all enemies, you need to combine them, so the gameplay won't consist only of running and overcoming obstacles. There will be different enemies in the game: skeletons, orcs, elves, gargoyles, and other evil creatures! Each of them requires a unique approach to defeating them. All the battles in the game will be on the move, but you are limited by time, so to think of the strategy, you will have to make decisions instantly.
The story in the game is served through the cutscenes, which are made in "manga" style. In these, you will get to know the heroines and characters that the girls will meet on their way. You'll also be accompanied on your journey by a fantasy-themed OST.
Nice little game to improve your reflexes and memory. :P
Story is OK. Background drawings are nice.
I turned off the music to focus.
I guess it's too short, but it was enough. lol
Took less than 3 hours - even for me...
Keys:
R - restart after dying
Space - Jump
D - sword attack
C - defend with shield
S - special arrow (uses 2 arrows, for gargoyle)
X - normal arrow
A - spell attack
Z - spell /magic defense
I wish I could give it a 2.5, that's roughly what it is to me, for what it is. What it is, is a kind of endless runner. I'm not sure if this is a bad translation, of if the weirdly choppy English is supposed to be part of it's charm. It's not enough to be mad at, but neither am I charmed by it.
As you progress it seems it will add some things. You start out with a jump and a shield. Then you get a person that can fire arrows for you. I'm sure there will be at least one more character added with at least one more power. I say this because the controls are SPACE; C; and X so far. So I'm assuming Z will also get thrown into the mix at some point. It's a very old school control scheme. It's slightly annoying but for what it is, it gets the job done. If you could use a controler on it, it's be far too easy I reckon.
I did find it a bit annoying that when they added the second character, you now have to factor her into your jumps because if you clear it but she doesn't, you lose. It's a time waster that I find hard to judge too harshly because while I'm fairly sure it's not really worth the $5 asking price. What can you really expect for $5? Sure, it could be cheaper, but that's not even enough to get a cheap meal anymore so, meh.
I don't love it, I don't hate it. It's a time waster with sections connected by a story presented in somewhat broken English (I'm not being totally fair here, it's not that bad, just a bit... off) and some decent character sketches. It really feels like this was an excuse to show off the sketches which are decent in their own right. But would not be worth the price of admission per se.
If you see it on sale for like a buck or two, then I’d feel a lot more confident in that three star. I don’t want to give it two, because for what it is, it’s fine. But it didn’t earn a three either.
At the current date (2023-01-20), this game is currently at:
- 4.99€ (no discount) on Steam
- 3.99€ (60% discount from 9.99€)
Hopefully this is a lack of update from the publisher but it isn't a good sign toward GoG customers that already feel too often as "second class" citizen regarding updates on the GoG platform.
