HuniePop is a unique sim experience for PC, Mac and Linux. It's a gameplay first approach that's part dating sim, part puzzle game, with light RPG elements, a visual novel style of presentation, an abrasive western writing style and plenty of "plot".
8 gorgeous girls each with their own personalities, preferences and style. (Rumor has it there are several secret characters to unlock as well!)
Hundreds of collectables including gifts, outfits and photos that you can purchase, unlock or earn as special rewards.
An addicting match-3 style puzzle dating system with it's own unique twists including upgradeable traits/stats, the ability to move any number of positions and special date gifts that have a variety of interesting effects on the puzzle.
Before we start... create an empty file called huniepop_uncensored_patch.game inside the installation folder to get the uncensored version (it will change only the last pictures, nothing else).
This is actually a fun game and sexy too... fun because the puzzle is actually a lot of fun, sexy because the girl interactions are really fun too.
dating sim portion is honestly top-tier. an option to choose your gender, enjoyable characters who are *just* the right level of trope-y, and gift-giving and trivia mechanics that encourage listening when they talk.
matching game is simple, but difficult. no real consequences for failure, aside from occasionally snappy remarks, so it's not really an issue to need an occasional grind for upgrades.
This game is a great take on Bejeweled. It's unique spin to the match-3 formula makes for a really engaging gameplay that has a much higher skill ceiling than expected from games of the sort. Not only that, but the addition of date gifts as powers makes for great build potential and adds depth beyond my limited imagination of actual years of playing the same Bejeweled clones.
That's where I shall end any and all praise, because it's time to talk about the rest of the game.
The writing is bad. Not just normal bad, abysmally bad. Written for an audience of channers level of bad. It's a dating sim that seems to have contempt for the very concept of human interaction, the way it boils any conversation to just "mirror your date's personality", which, funny fact, is an actual toxic relationship strategy.
Huniepop also features a vast cast of cliches characters, which have absolutely no development. They have hints of something beyond the most superficial, for example, the MILF (I don't remember her name) has the same last name as another dateable character, and if you do the math, it implies that she became a mother at 16. See, this is a detail that could turn into something interesting that the game simply seems to not care, because all interaction you have with anyone is:
1. To have sex
2. One of 14 generic conversation topics that don't actually amount to anything
3. "Memorize this table of information that won't be important at any moment"
And I guess it's better this way, because when they try to make characterization, you have stuff like having a character that says, in all words, "I'm not over the age of drinking". Guess what kinds of beverages you can give her. Also, one of the character is a catgirl that's "1 in cat years"... You can bang her, and you can get her drunk. Do I need to point out how creepy all of this is?
Speaking of creepy, HuniePop is weirdly racist. The unique gifts for a gym rat overly cautious with her heath mother is themed "mexico" because sh
