Description
Dodge, shoot, and explode across the Solar System as a crew of intelligent and dangerous chickens determined to reach the Sun and take out every remnant of humanity along the way. As the pilot of The Golden Eagle, it's your duty to keep Colonel Ram and Professor Bez out of harm's way as they squabble about ethics and who last used the bathroom.
You'll manage this task with burning plasma, smoking bullet cartridges, and daring maneuvers through asteroid belts. Some may discover a profound message, while others will be content with sidling harmfully across this horizontal vision of the future that comes handily embalmed with explosions.
A horizontal shmup featuring intergalactic chickens, explosions and death to humanity! And explosions!
Combine devastating weaponry to dish out the pain! Hatch turrets to deal with your foe two-fold! Destructible scenery, ship upgrades and boss fights!
Explode your way across the Solar System in non-linear fashion, with sprinklings of a silly-serious story to dip your beak in and levels that will delight eyes and scramble brainwaves!

Why buy on GOG.COM?
DRM FREE. No activation or online connection required to play.
I haven't played through the entire game yet, it's a good game, perhaps the golden egg system can be a bit frustrating because you have to play through the same levels multiple times.
Also it doesn't quite meet the quality of good old J'n'G IMHO (which I would love to see here so GOG what are you waiting for? :)
I've played dozens of these kind of games (Tyrian, Raptor, you name it) and this one got it all wrong. I was happy when I first looked at the screenshots and proceeded to buy the game. After playing almost a day with this one I can tell that it is not fun. You can't just go and play all levels for the first time because the game is too hard even on lower difficulties. You have to memorize every part of every map to be able to pick up stuff and shoot in the right places. I don't recommend this to anyone. Maybe hardcore players will find it fun but that's only around 5-10% of the gaming community.
Good things about Humans Must Answer:
-Nice music; a majestetic combination of "synthy" and "symphonic", the kind of sounds that you'd imagine are heard in space
-Humour! You have a military guy and an egghead (sorry!) scientist giving you their conflicting advice for every mission
-Nice graphics that are both flashy and cartoony, and rather clear also (in the shoot 'em up genre it's very helpful to quickly be able to see what is what!)
-An option to replay previous levels that doesn't encourage grinding. If I understand this correctly, you can go back and fetch any "golden eggs" (used to buy power ups) you missed, but you can't take the same eggs over and over again to gain an unfair advantage
Neutral things about the game:
-Many controls that all have regular use. This makes the game harder to master but maybe also more long-lived. Perhaps a gamepad would make it easier to keep track of the different buttons?
-Fairly challenging even on the easiest difficulty setting (for a beginner at least)
Bad things about the game:
-No two player mode.
Most similar game that I've played:
Stargunner by Apogee (game made in 1996 that's released as freewere but sadly not on GoG as of writing). Both games look, play and feel a lot like each other.
Action packed, and fun all the way.
The game has great graphics, sound and gameplay.
If you´re a fan of old skool "shoot ´em up", you should get this.
After a few hours of play you will miss 2 player mode, i did anyway.
NOTE: Ridiculously hard - even on easy mode.
not for the casual gamer.
And I swore I wouldn't make any egg puns...
This is a gorgeous game very much in the style of the brutal shooters. It requires a lot of tactical thinking and upgrading along with the reflex skills. The graphics are excellent without crossing over into "bullet hell" overload. And the music is splendid, worth the price of admission alone.
As I feared, my own shmups skills are barely up to it. Indeed, I haven't bested the first boss on on the second lowest difficulty setting. Some of this I suspect is from trying to play via keyboard, and I think you may find a controller will give you the balletic moves you really need in order to proceed. Whatever the case, I am not holding my own weak talent against the designers. If you want a classic (and classically tough) shooter garnished with loving attention, this is a must buy.
