Hotline Miami is a high-octane action game overflowing with raw brutality, hard-boiled gunplay and skull crushing close combat. Set in an alternative 1989 Miami, you will assume the role of a mysterious antihero on a murderous rampage against the shady underworld at the behest of voices on your answering machine. Soon you'll find yourself struggling to get a grip of what is going on and why you are prone to these acts of violence.
Rely on your wits to choreograph your way through seemingly impossible situations as you constantly find yourself outnumbered by vicious enemies. The action is unrelenting and every shot is deadly so each move must be quick and decisive if you hope to survive and unveil the sinister forces driving the bloodshed. Hotline Miami’s unmistakable visual style, a driving soundtrack, and a surreal chain of events will have you question your own thirst for blood while pushing you to the limits with a brutally unforgiving challenge. Some tactical thinking required, if you don't want to die--often.
A surreal and gritty storyline panned out over 20 ultra-violent multi-level maps.
Breakneck gunplay in bloodstained neon corridors combined with an intense, pumping soundtrack.
Gut-wrenching battles against a bizarre cast of bosses from Miami’s underground.
Wield 35 different weapons - from shotguns and assault rifles to katanas and lead pipes - everything is at your disposal.

I dont really run the fastest of computers so its hard to get new games that work. However this runs a dream and is absolutely brilliant! Takes gaming back to the old Grand Theft Auto days and its deliciously brutal! Worth spending every penny.
From the music to the level design Hotline Miami is a real treat. It can get rather difficult in parts and there are some issues I had, but I assume those were poor luck on my part.
One of those games where your pulse pounds as you frantically look for the last baddie on the map. You notice they have a gun and all you've got is a knife. That split second where you hope your knife sticks. It's a rush.
I finished the Linux port of this nice little game and had a blast.
Sure the whole insta-death thing is frustrating at times, but the fast action loaded gameplay with those ridiculously gory and oldschool visuals got me hooked. I'm still collecting the last masks and letters.
The final boss was mean but the moment you realize how to beat him/them he is done really fast and the bonus missions were quite nice. I wished there would be a bigger variety of missions like the ones after the final boss, but I haven't found any mods.
The only downside for me is the annoying music, I wished they'd implemented some nice 8 bit chiptunes or metal/hard rock instead of this techno stuff, but whatever.
This game gives many nods to one of my favourite games from this era "Dreamweb", I highly recommend this one, although it's way darker/depressing and less action packed.
The one thing that it lacks is a level editor (and therefore enabling community support) like the second part has, because although the original missions are great and have a replay value indeed, they aren't that many.
