Great PS4 era RPG
I picked this up for free on PS4 recently (second half of April) and I must say I'm quite happy with the game. The gameplay is reminiscent of God of War from 2018: you spend ability points to unlock abilities grouped into four different branches (stealth kills, damage enchancements, resource management, travel and machine repair). Granted, standard melee fight is repetative and somewhat tedious, as some reviewers have pointed out However stealth kill opportunities do help to break that monotomy. Nevertheless, it's bow arts that shine and are the primary combat strategy. So, in GOW melee was king, and in H:ZD projectiles rule. I found the story quite compelling and relatively fresh. Yes, Earth has been destroyed numerous times in multiple movies and games, but I can't recall another game that has a robot-infested quasi postnuclear Earth and humans that devolved back to say I-X centuries AD. While I do agree that most subquests are based on "Fedex principle" (go to point X, fetch object Y), there are some that like that refreshing breeze (anyone climbed those majestic giraffe-like Tallnecks?). The main plot is told well enough to keep one interested. Mix in some "as you please world roaming", a great tool like a Focus with numerous properties, a few good weapons and armours that you can customize, an expansion that prolongs the fun and adds extra content, and you get a pretty good game. Had I H:ZD on PC I would give it 5 stars with a clear conscience. But, since I own it only on PS4 and I have seen reviews that point out some technical issues while playing H:Zd on PC, I will give that game solid 4 stars. Regardless of the overall score, I sincerely recommend the game. Hell, H:ZD may not be en par with GOW, but its' a "A-list" aRPG

Didn't want it to end...
Aloy's character is a bit too perfect... she always does the right thing without having to think about it, and isn't scared of anything (even a gigantic robot dinosaur covered in cannons) but I found it pretty easy to overlook this and enjoyed the game immensely overall. And she's still a fun kick-ass protagonist to play - I especially love when she takes down a beastie a laughs in excitement, it's contagious. The world is vast and beautiful and filled with things to find and do. The story is engaging and expansive, although fairly linear. Side characters are diverse, well-written and memorable. The world that is built around the story is fascinating as well, with several distinct cultures interacting with each other, and meaningful side quests that help to flesh it out, and no spoilers, but by the end, the robot dinosaurs actually make sense. The combat, I think, has just the right amount of complexity, and is really fun. It's not confusing or hard to learn, but never gets monotonous. You can play your own style too - focus on stealth and traps, or just run around shooting off arrows like crazy, there's no wrong way about it. Some have mentioned technical problems, but I didn't experience any. Frame rates were maybe a little lower than average, playing on an RX480 and i5 7600k, but I put some graphic settings on medium/high instead of max, and all good. And it still looked amazing. After well over 100 hours in game, completing (I think) all of the side quests, DLC stuff and main story, the next thing I wanted to do was look up if there was a sequel. (There is, I just hope it gets a PC port.) I haven't been so invested in a game since The Witcher 3, and although I wouldn't say Horizon is quite Witcher 3 good, it's close.

my third copy of the game
I at first bought second hand disk with this game for my PS4 and I have enjoyed it so much that I have bought the digital complete edition for my PS4 and now since I have moderatly powerful PC I bought it here. And it is still one of the best games I have ever played. I love the astethics, the story it tells and the stories it suggests. Add the beutiful graphics and superb voice acting with very nice animations and this game is worth every cent. I already have the second game sitting on hte shelf but I will continue replying this so I an jump into the story.
