Homeworld: Emergence was originally released as "Homeworld: Cataclysm". "Cataclysm" is now a registered trademark of Blizzard Entertainment, Inc., and the game has been renamed to avoid confusion. Other than the subtitle change, the game is identical to the game released in 2000.

15 years ago, we were awakened from the cryo-trays. We had survived the journey to Hiigara, our lost homeworld. Then they told us that the planet we left behind had been destroyed. Our families... friends... everyone not on the mothership - killed. Destroyed by an enemy we never knew.

We realized there was nothing for us on Hiigara. No property, no rights, no future for the "Sleepers". So we returned to the stars, fully awake this time, to work and rebuild our lives.

It is ironic, then, that we are the ones to discover an alien capable of exterminating all life in the galaxy. And only we are in a position to destroy it.

Fifteen years after returning to their homeworld, a Hiigaran sect unwittingly releases an alien horror. Now it's up to you to commandeer the Kuun-Lan, a Hiigaran mining vessel, and transform it into a combat-ready mothership. Build and control a fleet of ships, research technologies, and harvest resources while you search for a way to eradicate the alien threat before it is too late.

Cataclysm

Absolutley love this game. By far the best in the current released HW games (not including HW3) and the story takes this game to places that few games have touched upon over the years. If your and RTS space fan then this game is a must.

Signature horror of the campaign intact

Not sure if you're familiar with this but campaign in Homeworld games tend to be horrific, plunging you to the depths of despair every now and then by throwing at you seemingly impossible to carry out tasks, sudden turn of events that astonish you, and just pure enemy cruelty. I must say, the playing experience here is much worse due to the fact that setting your units' stance to "Aggressive" doesn't seem to work at all and you will have to personally order each individual unit or else they will be mere sitting ducks - especially the fighters and corvettes that can be instant gibbed by ramming frigates since they won't even bother to dodge the ramming attack... nor retaliate against fighters and bombers attacking them... until they die or you give the order that is.

Doesn't work

Will they fix the game? Maybe someday but as of right now the game doesn't work. Win10 x64 Creators update and a Nvidia GTX 1080 on the newest drivers. The game gets through the opening ad movies and crashs after the 3DFX logo.

Not so sure

Always wanted to try this game since it was out. 2021 and it's finally happening, but to be honest, I can't get used to the controls and interface. They freak me out. Everything else seems really cool and all, so you should at least give it a try and maybe it's more intuitive to you than it is to me.

Amazing RTS (its not even nostalgia)

I never played any of the Homeworld series before this and i must say that Cataclysm is one of the amazing RTS i've played before. The first time i boot up the game (after a day trying to fix the resolution), Cataclysm looks menacing with its UI at first (i just a mere few months old when the game came out, so yeah modern UI really spoils me), but the control is surprisingly easy to master. I came expecting hard and confusing control and find myself loving the vanilla control a lot. The story is really nicely written and you can actually relates with the characters and the options they chose. The stake is real in the story and the characters voice lines and actions really reflect on that. That aside the current game still have some problem. Im not gonna bring up the aging texture and state the obvious ofc. The resolution still very hard to change even with the tools that came with the game. Dunno why but the tool's setting very reluctantly work with my 1366x768 monitor, and i must follow some Youtube guide and open regedit to make the resolution fit and centered. Movement control also sometimes warp around the places when you try to move the units up and down the Z axis. It's probably due to the resolution being stretched above it's original. Other than that on the gameplay side. Some mission difficulty really spiked up to the roof at some occasion, giving the player no room for breathing and consolidating their force. It would be understandable if its nearing the peak of the story, but some spike occurred at the middle of the story. Overall an amazing game. Currently installing the Homeworld remasterd collection since i got them with Cataclysm. I played Cataclysm 1st because im interested on it more than 1 and 2.
