It's the best game I've ever played,I can still remember I spent at least 5 hours to beat the Radiance.Plot, picture, music almost perfect. It do give me a brilliant memory
I'll be honest with you, I didn't like the game when I first tried it. For some reason, it seemed similar to Ori and the Blind Forest (which I didn't enjoy much), so I postponed playing it. However, once I gave it another try, I was hooked. The game is nothing like Ori, as I originally thought, it is far far better. It definitely has a learning curve, and you will need to put your time into it to learn the mechanics, but once you do, it starts to feel just right. Not to mention that the game itself is beautiful, and the music is superb.
For some reason I couldn't get my controller working so I played with keyboard (not the best experience, I do recommend controller), so it was a bit more difficult than it should've been. Overall, I enjoyed the game quite a bit, some bosses were more infuriating than others, but if you keep at it, you'll eventually beat them. I highly recommend this game!
I played for some five hours, I like this game. Not perfect but very good.
Maybe not very original as gameplay goes, but the ambiance and the graphics are lovely.
I saw many people had, like myself, troubles with the responsivness of the controls. Solution : turn off v-sync.
Turning on v-sync on the graphics card driver settings instead of per-application seems to be often recommended anyway.
Disclaimer: I used to play a ton, but nowadays I'm a more casual gamer and quality of life matters to me more than it used to.
PROs: Hollow Knight is a masterpiece in so many ways. Rarely has a game's atmosphere so captivated me, or the feeling of exploration been so real and wonderful. Almost everything about the game is such a polished masterpiece, feeling amazingly unique among the hundreds or thousands of games I've tried.
CONs: What got me to abandon the game was something absolutely ludicrous: checkpoints are far from boss fights.
When you lose to a boss, you have to re-travel through up to a dozen screens full of enemies, battling and dodging through them in a desperate attempt to avoid losing any hitpoints before getting your next shot at the boss. This is the opposite of fun and felt like a colossal waste of time to me.
There are a few smaller QoL issues in the game, like having to spend one of your limited equipment slots if you want to be able to see where you are on the map, and losing all of your money every time you die in a hard-to-reach place (your ghost keeps it until your next death, but getting there could be deadly, and if you manage, your ghost might kill you).
Everything else about this game is an absolute masterpiece and kept me playing for hours despite the frustrations, but somewhere around the midway through the game I noticed I had spent more than half the time of the last few hours re-fighting the same waves of enemies to re-reach the easiest remaining boss. I'd rather watch a movie than continue that loop.
The first third or so of Hollow Knight felt like a true wonder of the gaming world, but the frustrating combination of difficulty and low QoL left a bad taste in my mouth.
For more enthusiastic gamers: 5+/5
For my casual gaming: 3,5/5
There are two major elements to the game: The exploration (level designs, NPC's, Quests, Story etc) and the combat (fighting, bosses, weaponry, speels ect). For me the car is far superior in the first, and lacking in the later.
The world is fantastic, each map has its own feel, and really makes you want to learn more and fill in the gaps in your map. As you progress each area gets harder but it feels organic, not forced. The NPC's are all interesting and its nice to see how their story archs progress. The overall story is well done (in the classic souls style of show dont tell) and very sad.
In terms of the combat, after coming from Cuphead, the fighting feels very clunky. Most the bosses are acceptable, but few are memorable, and quite often when I fought them I was partially battling the mechanics of the game itself.
All in all, would recommend highly, but it shines mainly in its world design and exploration aspects, is lacking in bosses (compared to other similar games like cuphead, or the soulsborne franchise which it feels it takes alot of mechanics from)
