The Best Before Blood Money

The atmosphere is simply stunning, as with all Hitman games, but even more so here. The only thing I knew about Contracts was that it contained remaked missions of Codename 47, and I have to say that's my least favorite part: they're certainly well-made and fun but, let's just say that, for the purposes of the story, some of them make more sense to exist (RE-exist in this game) than others. The reason I consider this the best game out of the first three is mainly the yet mentioned atmosphere, but also the improved enemy AI and 47's movement speed, who, for all its good things, was a snail in Silent Assassin. IMPORTANT (for me): I've reinstalled the game several times, but the music from the end credits is still missing. Maybe an update will fix that. Anyway, a definite Good Old Game in my opinion.

Hitman Contracts... Insert S at start

Game doesn't work. Running on windows 11 - controls are unresponsive and game runs in slow motion with bugs galore. UTTERLY UNPLAYABLE!

What's even happening in this game?. :)

To be fair, I never finished Hitman 1 and 2 cause I just found them way too frustrating, so that might be one of the reasons I'm completely confused as to the story of this one. I mean the title is "Contracts", and I think that's essentially what the game is about. That being said, this is a very fun game. There are always multiple ways to finish each contract, and as other people have stated, there is an amazing, dark atmosphere to the whole experience and the music is awesome. Definitely try this one, even if you couldn't get into Hitman 1 and 2 like me.

First Hitman I ever purchased

But not the first I played. I played the original and Silent Assassin. While there are a few improvements with the detection system, there it's still pretty much Silent Assassin. I miss the loadout screen prior to missions, as you cant really take weapons with you, unless you replay the level I think. Which is a negtive for me. Still has the same controls, ( which im not really complaining about) but the weapons could have gotten better. There are some levels in which you its almost impossible to do stealthily. But others were huge, and you had to do a lot of intel work for which approach to best take. Which I liked, as it adds replay value. On a few levels, there were multiple ways to kill a target, adding to variety. I hated the fact that if you were discovered, all of the enemies would just swarm your position. I understand that it is a stealth game, but thats just a bit too much. Overall, I would recommend. If you are a long-time fan of the series, do buy it. Wait for a sale if you can.

Good stuff

About half of the missions are remakes of missions from the first game. No biggie. They are still nicely done. The new missions are of high quality. The game is much darker in themes and general climate. The stealth has been improved greatly My only issue is with the frame rate. I was able to tweak it, so the game was playable ok. Still, it felt like swimming through jelly once in a while. Other than that - playing chronologically - this is my favourite Hitman so far.
