Hitman: Absolution follows the Original Assassin undertaking his most personal contract to date. Betrayed by the Agency and hunted by the police, Agent 47 finds himself pursuing redemption in a corrupt and twisted world.
Features:
Glacier 2™ technology: HITMAN: ABSOLUTION has been built from the ground up, boasting a cinematic story, distinctive art direction and highly original game and sound design.
Freedom of Choice: Stalk your prey, fight them head on or adapt as you go along. As Agent 47 the choice is yours thanks to highly evolved gameplay mechanics and a ground-breaking AI system.
Experience a Living, Breathing World: In the world of Hitman: Absolution every moment can become a story as unique characters, rich dialogue and Hollywood standard performances combine to create a gameplay experience like no other.
Disguises: As Agent 47, the identity of almost anyone you meet is yours for the taking. Immobilise your prey, steal their outfit and use your instinct to blend in and deceive your enemies.
Instinct Mode: See the world through the eyes of Agent 47 and become the world’s deadliest assassin. Using Hitman: Absolution’s Instinct Mode you’ll predict enemy movement, discover new ways to kill and use high powered weaponry with deadly accuracy.
Definitevely the most linear one. I have nothing against over-the-top storytelling, but the level design doesn't allow you to be as free as in other Hitman games. It's essentially a Kane & Lynch game.
I get why most Hitman fans don't like this game, the level design is small, not many options to carry out your assassinations and the story is mid-tier at best but for those who never played a Hitman game before, they might like this since it is pretty straight forward and does not require a lot of time to learn the ropes. I loved some of the cinematics in the game and got fairly quick through the levels. If you are a perfectionist, then it might take much longer to complete the game. Other than that, the game is pretty good on its own unless you're comparing it to other Hitman games.
Don't know where I would have gone with a fifth HITMAN title ESPECIALLY after Blood Money, but can appreciate that they didn't just make Blood Money 2. ABSOLUTION is also the only HITMAN to be clearly influenced by IO's time with Kane and Lynch.
This was an extreme exercise on their tech team as well, as not even the current version of Glacier looks like this. The fine threading on 47's shirt, how skin is rendered in the light, rain, shadows, heat and so on.
Few of the levels feel like HITMAN Classic but the levels do have their own identity within the five games. They feel like a smaller realization of what you see in MGS Ground Zeroes, especially the later levels.
Because those earlier titles are struggling to hold up, this might be one of my favorite HITMAN games as of 2025 and certainly one of my favorites from IO Interactive overall.
