Enter the mind of a genetically-engineered assassin-for-hire Agent 47, whose deadly efficiency is now needed more than ever. Lured back into a global ring of deception by a twisted Russian crime boss, he must kill not only to make a living, but to keep himself alive. This time it's not just business, it's personal.
Hitman 2: Silent Assassin takes what's best from its predecessor and improves upon it, creating a top-notch stealth-action game with a gripping story and slick gameplay. Each mission is created with impressive attention to detail, and this level of complexity allows the player to find his or her own path to complete each assignment however seems best. A huge arsenal of guns and gadgets give you all the tools you will ever need, but your best weapons are still stealth and deception and this is something you can’t get for money. What you do and how you do it is entirely up to you, and as long the target is dead, the client is happy.
Improves on its predecessor in almost every way brings the gameplay to its full potential.
Extraordinary mission design that gives total freedom of movement and an impressive level of interactivity with the environment.
Monumental and memorable soundtrack made by acclaimed composer Jesper Kyd.
This is another "must have" of the entire Hitman series at this moment (the other ones being Hitman: Agent 47, Hitman: Contracts and Hitman: Blood Money). Great story, gameplay, soundtrack and a exciting climatic ending. You will never regret about this game franchise. In fact, you will love it!
I just replayed this game after about a decade since my last play-through. During this period I had been unable to run the game properly on my Windows 10 machine. Fortunately, I found a mod (uploaded by the user MikhailRock on the website NexusMods) with which I was able to run this game flawlessly. The aforementioned weblink also contains instructions on how to install the mod, which is very easy and takes less than 2 minutes.
The game itself is just as I remembered it from 20 years ago. I'm not sure if I should recommend it to fans of later installments, since this was the series' first attempt at the Silent Assassin mechanics... and it shows. This version is the most tedious and requires quite a bit of patience to finish with a perfect score. Still, Hitman 2 (2002) has a decent variety of environments (you get to visit countries all over the world) and a strong soundtrack to mach each of them. I'm also giving it a plus for going through the trouble of having voice lines in the actual languages of the places that you visit (something which adds a lot to the feeling of immersion, but games from that era often disregarded).
TLDR: Works well, good for going on a nostalgia trip, if you can put up with the dated mechanics.
I had to make my old review remove because of a problem and thankfully I should tell, because back then I said this was the second hardest game I've ever played (right after its predecessor HC47) and I was wrong. I've changed my mind recently since I've just replayed both the games.
- Basically, HC47 is difficult because of its "rough" state: I mean, if you want to play that game as a typical Hitman game, you will suffer, because that game is a little less than a TPS;
- Instead, Hitman 2 SA is difficult because is simply a difficult stealth game where you have to be a snail to make a silent kill and a second plus or less can make the difference and make you restart all from beginning.
The problem with Hitman 2 SA is that yes, it's more refined than its predecessor, but it's still "rough". The fact is that it's not "rough" because of its time period as HC47. It's "rough" because of some bugs in some missions (the ones in the snow especially) that make almost impossible to achieve the SA rank. My advice is to ignore the rank in those missions or you will drive crazy. The game is still very fun and satisfying to play even if you have to shoot with the SPAS.
This is definitely one of my top 5 games - the story was very engaging, the maps were enormous back then and the limitless possibilities of reaching the target boosted the replayability to a limitless time. And OH MY GOD the soundtrack! Jesper Kyd became my all time favourite composer, especially when I learnt that he didn't use any of the ethnic instruments to compose a 'native-sounding' soundtrack (check the violins and flute parts of the Japan missions tracks). As for the graphics - I'm used to such games, so they appear 'normal' to me, but the physics of the tie and the capes that are on the maps still impress me till this day.
Overall - this is one of those journeys that you'll never forget.
