Enter the mind of a genetically-engineered assassin-for-hire Agent 47, whose deadly efficiency is now needed more than ever. Lured back into a global ring of deception by a twisted Russian crime boss, he must kill not only to make a living, but to keep himself alive. This time it's not just business, it's personal.

Hitman 2: Silent Assassin takes what's best from its predecessor and improves upon it, creating a top-notch stealth-action game with a gripping story and slick gameplay. Each mission is created with impressive attention to detail, and this level of complexity allows the player to find his or her own path to complete each assignment however seems best. A huge arsenal of guns and gadgets give you all the tools you will ever need, but your best weapons are still stealth and deception and this is something you can’t get for money. What you do and how you do it is entirely up to you, and as long the target is dead, the client is happy.
  • Improves on its predecessor in almost every way brings the gameplay to its full potential.
  • Extraordinary mission design that gives total freedom of movement and an impressive level of interactivity with the environment.
  • Monumental and memorable soundtrack made by acclaimed composer Jesper Kyd.

Middle of the road

Codename 47 was a success, a success that needed a sequel. And what do the good sequels do? Fix what's broken, evolve what's working. And Silent Assassin does that...kinda. Unfortunately, not always right. The overall structure of the game remained the same - you have a map where you need to do something, preferably unnoticed, and then, usually, leave the area. But how you do it is slightly different. First of all, and that is important for more... kind, i guess, players like me, - you can knock out enemies with a chloroform instead of killing them. This also means, that now you can knock out innocent people in the area and use their clothes almost without any consequences. Almost, because knocked out people do regain consciousness (quicker on higher difficulty), and because there is a new meter. Yes, starting with this game there is a "suspicion" meter in play. And it's rather stupid, unfortunately. When you are seen by enemy/guard-type characters, their "suspicion" goes up. It's universal for the map and it can only be slightly changed by what you are wearing at the moment. But it didn't work as well as in later installments, with lots of smaller "if"s in play, where enemy/guard character could truly be described as "suspicious" and not "crazy and paranoid" and willing to shoot a hotel visitor just because he made a wrong turn (and yes, this can happen). What's also sad, is that the infamous jungle chapters from Codename 47, are here as well, only now you're in snowy Japan. Why would developers want to leave this kind of section in the game is still something i don't understand. But it's a solid game. Not yet as refined as Contracts and Blood Money, but not as raw and hardcore-ish as Codename 47. Definitely worth the play. P.S. Jesper Kyd's music is amazing as always. So, erm, wot's the deal with the soundtrack, GOG.com? P.P.S. You can now save in the game, if that put you off in Codename 47. Amount of saves depends on the difficulty level. P.P.P.S. The game is ridiculous to play if you speak russian. Russian stereotypes in this game are amazingly funny. Game even starts with a very harsh russian profanity, it's the first thing you hear when you start the game.

Stealth Innovation That Holds Up Today

Hitman was a bit iffy at first, but with Hitman 2 the series became a truly unique experience that pleases stealth fans with a mixture of gameplay styles. There are shades of Thief and Splinter Cell here, hiding from enemies and moving silently, but there is also a social stealth element that revolves around behavior and appearance. Real spies and assassins don't stay crouched in the shadows 24/7, they socialize with friends and enemies alike, mask themselves as the enemy and play out roles to fit in. Hitman 2 makes this unique life experience into a unique game experience that paved the way for its sequels as well as games like Death to Spies and Assassin's Creed. While inspirational Hitman 2 is still part of a rare breed of games. Its graphics are somewhat stylized and still hold up today while its controls and interface are modern and completely serviceable. It has flaws that were further refined in its sequels, but Hitman 2 still gets a 5 star review for practically inventing a sub-genre and offering stealth gamers not only another rare fix but also something truly inspired and interesting.

Don´t work on Windows 10

Yes I know it already says this in the download section but I realy would like to play this great game again. Loved it back in the days when it was realeased so I bought the whole series now on GOG. The game kind of works on Win10 but everything goes in slow motion so that makes it unplayable... also the cutcenes freeze sometimes. Hope you GOG guys can fix it to work on a Win10 machine, would be great!

Double Amazing

I mentioned in my Codename 47 review that it was a new, revolutionary masterpiece, and well, this game is too, upgraded graphics, new types of missions, interesting new levels, and now the option the finish missions HOWEVER you want, you can be stealthy, or you can shoot up the place with whatever guns you may have taken from your little armory, this game is WITHOUT a doubt the best in the series, Sure, Contracts and Blood Money were good, but this is where Hitmans success really started, i can't recommend this game enough, as a matter of fact, why are you reading this? BUY IT NOW! :D

the best of the series

This hitman is almost perfect. It has the best texture, the best system of saves, the best system of disguises, the best missions. Absolution is done well, but the plot is more filler, and the missions are too long for the system checkpoints, in addition, it is nice purist mode only. Also there is a mac version. Blood Money is nice, but the story is realized only at the end, the system of disguises, is too effective, and the missions are too easy. Contracts is a summary. Codename 47 is too difficult. Silent Assassin is among other things the first to introduce the valuation, the only parameter that makes you want to do a mission several times. Worth all the money spent and more. Also it works great with wineskin (so those who use mac or linux can feel comfortable).
