Heroes of Might and Magic® 5 Bundle includes Heroes of Might and Magic® 5 and its two expansions: Tribes of the East and Hammers of Fate.
Heroes of Might and Magic® 5 is a turn-based strategy game in which you can build cities and besiege them, train troops and slaughter them, and explore new lands – and crush them under your iron heel. You directly command your armies on the battlefield and aid them with your character’s abilities as well as your own strategy skills. With six unique factions to choose from, each with its own set of buildings and creatures, Heroes of Might and Magic® 5 provides gamers with the strategy and detailed graphics that the series has been known for. As you progress through the game your character gains levels of experience that allow him to learn new spells and abilities. All this is set in the magical and enchanting setting of the legendary Might and Magic® universe.
Good game. Nice graphics, made with respect to the tradition of the series. But the tempo kills the pleasure. HOMM2 is swift and exiting. The gameplay process is the main thing. The 3rd game of the series is balanced and exiting too. But in HOMM5 the picture and new features were more important to the developer than the playing process, and game makes you tired too early. Owned it on CD when it was new and never will buy again.
I remember when this came out and how muched i loved it. i think ubisoft did a great job with the fifth game and their first heroes game. they kept the things that heroes 3 was good at. and saw the possiblities that the fourth game took forward. liike the skill system is awesome and it was great that they saw the possibility for it. and i think it heroes 4 that helped that idea for heroes 3 have no skill system. it's basicly chose this, u become better at what u piced. but in the fourth game you choose this and this and then u get this to. like there was combinations and heroes 5 did this to wich was great. when the last expansion came for the fith game then they added two diffrent uppgrades and i loved it. cause the moment you add more choice to the game the better it gets. the more choices the better the game. at least thats what i think. like it would be the best heroes game. but yes here is the thing that killed this game for me. U NEED TO WAIT 1-2 MINUTES A TURN. thats right, if u play an 8 player game with ai. it will take forever until you can do your turns again. this gets worse when you make your own map to. and worse throughtout the game. this was fine at first but youll get there when it just bouther u to much. and ive played this since realese so im just done with this game. i play heroes 4 and dream of a better version of it.
I need to start by saying two things. One, I love HOMM 2 and 3 but I am one of the worst players of the either game. I do not mind 6 either (more on this later). And the second thing is, when I first played HOMM 5, back around the time it had recently came out, I remember hating it. No lip sync, the textures felt ugly, the camera control was hopeless, story seemed cheesy. I uninstalled very quickly.
Fast forward to 12 years later, I am having such a blast with this game. Before I played any of these games, however, I played number 6. I still love the unit and animations of 6. Some of the units in 5 are same as 6 - but of course much lower res-, however, some are super experimental. Some of the designs are hit, some are misses for me. So, I tend to prefer HOMM 6 personally. Having said that, the way they approached to map building and story feels fresh and really awesome. It feels more like a grounded world rather than a playground; so not a boardgame board with pieces if you will. I really hope they try this type of approach, if ever, in the future they make another title.
Another weird thing about this game is, I have played HOMM through to number 6 bar number 4, and this game's campaign at "easy" is easier than easy. Like, other HOMM game's easy actually kick my ass. I cannot even beat them! Having said that, I am in too early of the campaign, perhaps, it will get harder. Or, for the first time in HOMM game, I may have to increase the difficulty! *gasp*
All in all, I'd say this is an awesome edition to the series. I would say it competes the number 1 spot for HOMM3 for me personally. I still like some of the design choices of number 3, so it still kind of remains number 1 for me haha. But then HOMM 5 cutting sooo close.
If you are looking to dip your toes into the series, and you don't mind some old gfx (still look decent at highest setting with AA etc.) this is the perfect place to start! Highly recommend!
Having never played Might and Magic but having many years of game play and a great love of RPG, I was willing to give this a try. I was all excited after reading the grand reviews and thought it was a good bet.
I was very disappointed and could not even get past the first battle scenes. I found it very non intuitive and was not even liking the character that I supposed to be. For the price I guess I cant complain but I will not be playing this game. I really cant see what others see that is so good about this game. Really wanted to like it.
I played the HoMM Series from the beginning and switched to Linux lately.
Just open the gog-installer with wine and it installs like a charm.
Patch it with Fan-Patch 5.5 and enjoy one of the best HoMM Titles :)
