A great game but it crashes all the time

During battle, there are times that the game crashes. It is really annoying to save all the time because of the fear of losing your progress and it is also annoying to have to actually terminate the application yourself when it crashes, to relaunch it again. In any case, the game is the best of the series in my opinion, but with a HOMAM3 with both expansions competing against it really hard. In any case, if the game will be fixed, I will give it the stars it really deserves.

The heroes game with the most ideas.

I started playing heroes with my uncle when i was little, we played heroes 3 and might and magic 6 most of the time. but i remembered when he got heroes 4. it was just a world turned upside down. i always thought it looked stuinning for it looks so real. like now adays othere games just seems so toyish. but in heroes 4 it looks like living breathing things. if 3do didn't hit the dust and followed this path. i can't even imagine what would happen but it would be beatiful. it added classes to the game, they added choice to the game. and heroes can fight, and being in the spirit of might and magic it realy felt great to have ur hero actualy do something, and hell they can do much to. summon 24 devil with one spell, can become increadeble strong in compareson to creatures. and lvl 4 creatures feels like the best creatures. like when you get ur first level 4 creature in a game. everything changes for you. artifacts are insanly better than any other heroes game, it is the same with spells. and they have decription for everything. wich just shows how much love they put into this. and now just imagine with all the choises and classes in this game, and think how cool it would be if they build more on this in future games, wich will sadly never happen :( like if they added uppgrades to all the creatures and still have that choise between two of each level. and what if, what if! they made a choise for 2 diffrent uppgrades as well. like there would be soooo many possibilities! it would be insane and what if they did the same for classes. like more combinations when u have that skill and that skill with the hero. it would be wild and i would have played it forever. it would become a treasure for me and it is why i treasure this game so much cause of all the posibility it showed us.

Give it a chance

I like it. All the negative reviews come from the fact gameplay was changed from 3. That is fine. It is a fun game in its own right. I took off a star because the game freezes randomly in a battle sequence. I have researched by this is and the general concensus is HoMM4 does not like multicore especially on Windows 10. Someone has released a so called for for this: https://www.gog.com/forum/heroes_of_might_and_magic_series/graphic_gl_wrapper_for_all_heroes_heroes_of_might_and_magic_1_2_3_4_and_chronicles_for_better_wo I turned off cold CPU as it still crashed (but less often) after using the dll, so we will see.

AMAZING!

Heroes of Might & Magic IV is an amazing entry in the series because expands on so much more than what HoMM III expanded on. It has a new 2.5D style which has it's problems such as it's harder to move around in battle enviroments but works so well because it makes it feel more like a battlefield. The character models look amazing not only that but the factions and characters are extremely memorable with the factions units being well chosen even the merging of the necro and inferno faction from heroes III and calling them the death faction is brilliant. The renaming of all the factions were great too. The nature faction has a creature portal which obviously makes them my favorite faction. Now having units travel without a hero is amazing game design because they don't need a person that sits in the corner and waves their wand not to mention heroes are now ON the battlefield which really makes it feel like the hero isn't lazy. There are 6 campaigns in the base game with 18 in total with the expansions, all of them are memorable of course. Overall Heroes of Might & Magic IV is a game that took risks on the formula but it really pays off in the end unlike Heroes V. It took risks which makes it AMAZING!

My favorite entry in the series

I remember the game when it came out. After playing HOMM3 for so long, this game was a shock! Everything was different, the graphics was too colorful/plastic. The soundtrack wasn't as good. The neutral armies on the map moved? What the heck?! I forgot about the game for a few months at least and then picked it up after a long while, gave it a shot again and I finally got how the new gameplay systems work. After playing some of the campaigns I really fell in love with the story-telling and the soundtrack too. The hero leveling and skill system was a hell of a lot of fun. Ocasionally I return to this game and play a few maps, while I don't ever play HOMM3 anymore. The visuals of the 4th game have stood the test of time actually, in my opinion it looks good even by todays standards. Unfortunately the game has an issue with crashing in battles on windows 10 (I've seen some reviewers mention it) but that can be fixed by setting CPU affinity in the task manager (there's a guide somewhere in the forums). This game is I think less of a strategy when compared to the other games in the series. I play it like an RPG game, I mostly level up heroes until they can obliterate anything in their path, without taking any troops. It's a different breed than the other HOMM games for sure, but still highly enjoyable.
