Heroes 3 is awesome, as always!
One of my all time favorite games. I play a lot of the modern games too but keep coming back to this turn-based classic for a change.

Dated
I played this for the first time in 2025, and was disappointed. The UI is very dated; it needs way more hotkeys, it's very unintuitive at times, and only seldom gives you specific information about what a talent or ability actually does. The music is bad. All of the above, I could excuse if the gameplay was great. It was not. It mostly involved me chasing around weak enemy armies who kept running away from me, until I finally caught them and forced them to do battle, only for them to run away from combat and teleport to their base for free. I don't care what the rationale for this dynamic is, it doesn't make for good gameplay. On to the positives: I loved the art direction for this game. They do a great job of portraying heroic fantasy, and for that, I'm giving it a higher score than I otherwise would have. I've played and thoroughly enjoyed similar games, but not this one. This game is primarily for old fans who played it way back when; I would not recommend it to new players today.

Excessively fun, but just a little thick
Heroes of Might and Magic 3 follows the same patterns that were developed in 1 and 2, but it has allowed for massive amounts of creatures and hero classes. Usually, I like tons of classes and creatures. And for the most part, I loved it here. But there were so many (if I remember right, when I bought this game years ago it came with a double-sided poster listing the hundreds of unit types). After playing the game forever, I still never had a great feel of what every single creature could do and how best to defend against it. But that also created a certain fun to it, too. Overall, I liked HoMM 2 just a smidgen better (So I'd give this 4.95 starts out of 5, really, but I'll just round it off). But if you're like the rest of the world, you'll like this one even more. Like HoMM 2, you get to experience the fun world of MM6 and MM7. In fact, this game uses a ton of references from both games and puts your right in the middle of them. Do yourself a favor and pick this one up.
