Heroes of Might and Magic® 3: Complete

Perfect turn-based strategy game.

This is the only game I am still playing. The random map generator can't be beat and part 3 is well polished. This is a great game and pretty challenging at times. There is a mod out there, Wake of Gods, that enhances the game somewhat. It's not bug free however but there are many options available to you once you apply it. This game is highly recommended.

I have the original HOMM III and all the expansions when it first came out. Thank god for gog.com and now I can play this all over again on my newer machines that run XP and Vista. As far as the game goes, this is the best of turn-based strategy PC games. This is what makes the HOMM franchise what it was back then. Everything is so simple yet still remain challenging to this very day. Even if you have never played this game, I guarantee you that you will simply get caught up in the gameplay. If you have never played a turn-based strategy PC game in your life, let this be the reason you do so.

HOMAM 3 is one of the games that will forever be in my heart. My friends and I have spend thousands of hours playing this game and also had fun with simple, yet great editor, which allows you to create your own maps and campaigns. For me, this installment is the best from the series - it's well balanced, you can play it with your friends using the hotseat feature and have endless hours of fun just like we did. But beware! If you start playing this game, you will surely get in the HOMAM loop which can be summarized by the sentence "one more round and I'll go to bed". No you won't :)

This is the best version of HoMM 3 currently available! Unlike the "HD" edition, this one includes both expansions and most importantly - a random map generator! I cannot stress the importance of the map generator enough. Hundreds of gameplay hours guaranteed. What I am talking about - it's actually thousands of gameplay hours! It's a fantasy Turn-based Strategy game with some RPG elements (the titular "heroes" gain levels, skills and perks that help their army"). The graphics are made in cartoony style, so they surprisingly hold up even today, much like "Monkey Island" does with its cartoony style. The overworld map is made to resemble a board game playfield, which is also quite nice. The music is awesome, and the gameplay - thrilling. Only downside is that the game does not support modern HD resolutions. Luckily, there's a mod for that, now hosted even on the Nexus: https://www.nexusmods.com/heroesofmightandmagiciii/mods/3. Apart for modern resolutions support, it also offer online multiplayer. Awesome! However, if you're like me, you will enjoy gathering up with friends, buying some beers and playing a hotseat match, where all players take turn on the same machine (and drink beer while waiting for their turn). Five stars! It is one of my favorite games of all time.
