Shows its age a little, but still great.

Be warned: If you have a widescreen display, you will almost certainly want to run in windowed mode -- which requires a 16-bit desktop rather than a 32-bit desktop. HOMM3 runs in 800x600, period. Something that may not be obvious from the description: This includes the map editor and campaign editor, which were one of the best parts of HOMM3. You can make your own custom maps, and the system is extremely flexible and adaptible. The provided maps and scenarios are pretty fun to begin with, too. While HOMM4 had some lovely upgrades (better flexibility about screen sizes, for instance), HOMM3 always felt like it had the best balance, to me. Good balance, every turn is interesting, always something to do...

The best of the best

Well, my first contact with Heroes of Might and Magic 3 wasn't that great as the title says. It was the demo version with only one map and one playable castlebut that wasn't problem. I think main reason I didn't like the game at first was the graphics. I couldn't get used to "this modern stuff" since I was used to play Heroes 1 and 2 and this looked quite different and not so "fairy-taleish". I gave it some tries, but then returned to Heroes 2... ...to finally get my hands on Heroes 3 CDs few years later. I forgot about the "graphics problem" and put myself in game. It quickly caught my attention and I liked it better and better. Yes, there are lots and lots of campaigns and scenarios, but the main reason I like Heroes 3 still so much is it's multiplayer. I share my Heroes obsession with friend and even now, after many years of playing, we manage to sit side by side and play good old Heroes 3 hot seat mode. The reason it's so addictive and playable lies in really well ballanced castles and units. If you're good enough, there should be no problem winning any map with any castle. That's what makes strategy games really strategical. If I had to, I would pick Heroes 3 as my favourite strategic game ever made. No doubt. There are other good games (Disciples series, Age of Wonders series, etc.), but there remains only one true love :-)

A true classic and a must have

Heroes of Might and Magic is probably one of the oldest and most beloved PC game franchises to date. I've been a fan of the series since Heroes 2, but Heroes 3 is the absolute masterpiece of this franchise. There is just a ridiculous amount of single player content in this game, and on that note, this package also includes both expansions, Armageddon's Blade and Shadow of Death, the latter of which I didn't even know existed until a few years ago. Hours of your day will just vanish when you play this game and you won't regret one second of it. For a game that's 15 years old, it actually stands the test of time very well. I've never had any compatibility issues with it, and although it may not look as polished as most modern games, the game's art style is still very appealing. However, of all the things I love about this game, the one thing that I probably love above all else is the soundtrack. Every musical theme just fits perfectly with every aspect of the game. This is a timeless classic and I would advice any PC gamer to buy it.

Old but great (and Demon girls love it)

First off: The Game is old and sometimes a bit clunky. BUT! It's still a great game and one of THE classics when it comes to turn based strategy games. 1. Gameplay : The basics namely: Moving around, fighting, recruiting, upgrading the city, looting & adventuring are fairly easy to understand - though require some time to understand on a more advanced level (Where to move, fighting strategy, economy etc.). So it follows the "Easy to learn - hard to master" motto. Factions: The factions are pretty well balanced but every faction has different playstyles and focusses on different aspects. Whether it has a slightly advantage for magic, ranged or meele units depends on the faction & type of hero you have. Though you are not forced to only focus on one aspect only. 2:Graphics: Very nice graphics considering its release date. While they reused some graphics from their older games (For example Might and Magic VI: Mandate of Heaven) it doesn't look "ripped off" - but rather enhances the nostalgic feelings in case you did play one of their games. (And since it belonged to them anyway it can't even be "ripped off" anyways). 3. General: This game is very fun to play, still working - thanks to GOG - on Windows 10 and replayable multiple times. If you like turn based strategy - At least give it a try. You'll find yourself happily playing many hours.

Gaming GOAT, but add HotA

This is one of the greatest games of all time (GOAT), but you really need to play it with the HD Mod and HotA updates. There is an active community developing both. I think you just use them with this purchased install folder. HotA allows an active server for multiplayer games and simultaneous turns (until humans fight the first time in the scenario). The HD Mod allows several resolution options that let you make use of greater screen space than people had in 1999. I'm actually hoping to create my own turn-based strategy game for mobile, largely from being inspired by this game. It's that good.
