Heroes of Might and Magic® 2: Gold

I wasted hundreds of hours (probably) in the 1990s playing this game, but had gone on to Heroes 3, 4, and 5 and had made the mistake of giving my discs to an equally-addicted friend. Thanks to GoG I can play this again, and I have to say that this game not only holds up gameplay-wise to anything on the market today, but it also has reinstated itself as my all-time favorite HOMM game. I am once again finding myself up till 2 am and having to wrench myself away so I can function in RL the next day. You have been warned: this game will grab hold of your brain like a boa constrictor (okay a gentle, colorful boa constrictor that makes pretty noises). I won't go into the gameplay mechanics (others have done a brilliant job of that). The only thing I have to add to any of the other reviews is that I love the map editor for this game. Unlike subsequent editors for HOMM games, the creations from this one are truly random. You can create a map and there may only be one ore mine on the entire map. Or, you may be given 7 gold mines in the vacinity of your starting castle (or your enemy's!). The editor for HOMM3 was done using a small variety of templates in order to insure balance, but I found that it got old quickly. Anyway, this is well worth $9.99. It is a true classic.

I love the series and have played it for years and own all five that are currently in stores but somtimes the sound would get a little funny. other than that, a game I have always loved!

I bought this game here and the one contained in the DVD "Heroes of Might and Magic Collection". The DVD contains Heroes 1 to 5, including the expansions, and yes, it contains the Heroes 2 expansions. The difference is as follows: -- This here at gog is for DosBox. Selecting the correct Graphic setup and changing the settings in the config file of DosBox gets me Heroes in a nice window with the correct scalings. But the sound sometimes is not very sound. For example, the teleport sound on the adventure map is just a nasty scratching sound. -- The DVD starts in fullscreen and loads music from DVD. The tracks can be played in a player from DVD. The quality seems better. But the teleporter sound is missing. The game starts in fullscreen, I do not know how to change that.

By far this is my favorite Heroes of might and magic of the series. I've spent hours and hours playing it. The music is a plus too which gives the game a sense if reality. This is an all time favorite of mine and always will be.

Hello guys, I've played this game quite a lot when I was a kid and still like it so much. I'd like to ask if there are any posibilities to play against other fans in hot seat sessions or perhaps even online? Gaming agaisnt Computer is sometimes too predictable while humans just take human decisions.
