Too outdated!
When originally came out, was AMAZING. BUT the problem is that there was HOMM2 and HOMM3... so doesn't make much sense to buy this one. It's worth $9.99 but... there is any reason to buy this and not just pick up HOMM2 instead? no :)

A Repetitive D&D 4X w/ Little Content
Traits: Graphics: ok. Music: slightly impressive. Gameplay: repetitive & dull. Challenge: cheating, aggressive CPU opponents & staying awake. Content: 8 repetitive campaign missions, downhill mission quality. 4 parties. Technical issues: 1) a rare hang-bug during turn-changes, 2) cheat codes besides map reveal not working False marketing: "A unique gameplay style and interesting story set in the famous Might and Magic universe" FALSE - it references things like Eye of Goros while doing zilch, nada, NOTHING with them. The story itself is about take-over-the-world. I do not remember the part in M&M where you command hordes of gargoyles and ogres to slay knights and paladins and subjugate human towns to the forces of evil. French distributors such as Ubisoft are not to be trusted. Recommendation: SKIP. Buy HoMM 3 instead. Please. HoMM 1 & 2 are abortions of 3. This one is highly similar with no advantages over 3. Fan-made HoMM 3 content > all HoMM 1 or 2 retail content. Even if you got this one for free, 3 would still be more bang for your time. Just look at this game's feature listing: basically "that game from 1995, buy it, you game-collecting suckers."

The worst one of them all. By far.
HoMaM 1 was perhaps a "ground-breaking title" in gaming, but so was PONG when it was first released. That doesn't make it a "timeless classic". I played this back when it was still a hot title and I've played it much more recently as well, and let me tell you: it has NOT aged well. In fact, I would say it's done the opposite: It has rotted and decayed to the point of being an entirely unenjoyable - borderline unplayable - reminder of long forgotten and thankfully also long abandoned gameplay mechanics. I won't waste my time on a lengthy review with this one. It's not worth it. I'll just say that if you wish to experience a piece of gaming history in the form of the Might & Magic series, start with Heroes 2 and move forward from there. Because just like Doom 1, The Settlers 1, Civilization 1, SimCity 1, The Sims 1, and many other initial titles in longer-reaching gaming series, Heroes of Might and Magic 1 is by far the worst of its series. Buy it only, and I do mean ONLY, if you intend to pad out your collection. Don't bother with it otherwise. It's a waste of money. Every single one of the following instalments in the series are leagues better in every single way.
