Heretic: Shadow of the Serpent Riders
Three brothers, known as the Serpent Riders, used their powerful magic to possess and corrupt the seven kings of the realm, plunging it into war and chaos. But a race of elves known as the Sidhe resisted and were branded heretics. On the brink of losing the war, the Sidhe elders sacrificed themselves and the elven capital city to destroy the seven kings and their armies. As one of the few surviving elves, you embark on a quest for vengeance against those who slaughtered your friends, family, and entire race.
Heretic: Faith Renewed [NEW]
Years after the planes were cleansed of D'Sparil's wretched influence, a wandering warrior in search of home arrives at a foreign land to discover the blighted stains of that old time religion seeping through the cracks of society once more. In the fortified city, zealous acolytes stand high atop a decadent cathedral and listen to the lamentations echoing from the streets as non-believers are dragged away for 'correction.' The shadow of D'Sparil lingers after death, his absence attributed to apotheosis. Once revered, now worshipped, deserving of neither. An all-too-familiar scene, and one you simply cannot stomach. Taking up the mantle of Heretic once more, you stride into the city, staff in hand, to silence the echoes of your arch-nemesis.
Hexen: Beyond Heretic
While the Sidhe elf Corvus battled the evil forces of D'Sparil, the remaining two Serpent Riders were busy sowing the seeds of destruction in other dimensions. As a Warrior, Mage, or Cleric, you must fight the undead and brave elemental dungeons and decaying wilderness to defend your realm of Cronos from Korax, the second Serpent Rider.
Hexen: Deathkings of the Dark Citadel
After defeating the evil Korax, the second Serpent Rider, and discovering the Chaos Sphere, you have been transported to the Realm of the Dead. Now your only way home is blocked by hordes of undead and the Dark Citadel. Where Hexen ends, the true nightmare begins.
Hexen: Vestiges of Grandeur [NEW]
Korax lingers between life and death, his shredded corpse left behind with no semblance of life while he clings to a fresh, if fragile, rebirth. His grip on Cronos is once more released, yet the cycle continues, proving another force is at work: an invisible hand puppeteering both Korax and you, weaving a star-crossed destiny that will never die. And if that hand tugs the threads of fate again, what surprises are yet in store for you?

Nightdive are the best!
I liked Heretic and loved Hexen I and Hexen II. The first two games got an unexpected remaster (with an additional new episode for Heretic). Thank you so much Nightdive, you are the best!

Love These Games but...
As a person who always carries a USB with GZDoom loaded with Doom, Heretic and Hexen ready to play whenever I have free time at work. As for today this collection needs to be patch. Even turning off these "enhancements" some weapons behave really bad. For example gauntlets of necromancer push the enemies along with you forward, ethereal crossbow always spread the projectiles and even the enemies feel more spongy. The same with Hexen there are some weird weapon behaviors that feels off. Don't misunderstand me, I love seem this games re-released, but I´m also a costumer and I'm expecting seen these games given the same treatment as they did with Quake II (to me, their best remaster so far)

A Beautiful Game
First played Hexen on the 64. It had such an impact on me, that later in life I named my first band Hexxen. Just got this version on the switch, so now I can have friends on PC crossplay the hell out of this. Whoever gave the green light, at Bethesda thank you. Night Dive, thank you.

Enhanced maps and gameplay, solid port
Overall score: 4.5/5 This would probably be more aptly described as an "enhanced edition," rather than a remaster. Apart from the new music (which is quite good), there aren't really any graphical changes. What they did do though, is provide some great optional enhancements. If enabled, enemies in Heretic have less health (making them less "spongy"), Hexen has map markers to show goals, and both games have reworked levels. This makes a BIG difference in making the games more enjoyable. Heretic is faster paced (with less chipping away endlessly at mobs) and Hexen is less confusing. So essentially the two biggest problems with both games have been fixed. Or you can have the original experience, if that's what you want. Not only that, but each game receives a high quality new episode. I have a few hours in each and they are both great. My only real complaint is that there are less options in the menu than typical Nightdive releases. There's no option for ambient occlusion for example, which previous classic shooter releases from them have had, and you also can't disable vertical autoaim. Your attacks will move themselves upwards and downwards to hit an enemy no matter where you are aiming, like in the originals. I suspect id Software/Bethesda might have prevented them from including some of these options. In any case, these are well worth purchasing if you are a fan of classic shooters and don't have them already. Contrary to what someone else wrote in their review, they also still come with the old DOS versions if that's what you want.
