Description
Hello Neighbor is a stealth horror game about sneaking into your neighbor's house to figure out what horrible secrets he's hiding in the basement. You play against an advanced AI that learns from your every move. Really enjoying climbing through that backyard window? Expect a bear trap there. Sneaking through the front door? There'll be cameras there soon. Trying to escape? The Neighbor will find a shortcut and catch you.
  • Suspenseful horror gameplay (not jump scares) that focuses on sneaking around your neighbor's house
  • Constantly evolving experience where the Neighbor's AI counters your moves, and learns from what you do
  • Sandbox-style gameplay with plenty of environmental interaction and physics

Bit off more than they could chew

This game is still not ready for primetime and who knows if it ever will be. The things that are broken and janky are far too numerous to list and they vastly outweigh the few things that actually work. It feels more like I bought an idea than an actual functioning game. If GOG had Steam's return policy, I would've put this money towards another game here that's worthy of the asking price, cause I feel duped with this one... I'm going to shelve it for a while and possibly check it out after they've (hopefully) patched some life into it. In summary... great concept, horrendous execution.

This game feels unfinished.

The final game changed my opinion about it so unbelievably quickly. It is (still) unbelievably broken, the A.I. always magically knows where you are at. It, can even see through walls. The hitboxes don't make any sense, and a lot of other problems. It is just ridiculous and expansive.

Might as well be Early Access Do not buy

To summarise, in this stealth game you can sprint past him without him hearing you but he can sure see you through walls and if he sees you then you can just literally out run him and he loses you. The intro story makes absolutely no sense and because you're a kid, it's very annoying having to jump over or clip through drawers to see if there's anything in them (which there never is). PUBG is a more finished game than this is.

Don't get suckered in by the story

Aside from the many criticisms other people have already left about the gameplay and AI, this game has probably the most disappointing ending you could imagine. I won't spoil it here, but I'd urge you to look up the ending on youtube rather than buying the game if you really want to know how it ends.

Stunningly Broken

I was so, so, so disappointed by this game. The core problem is that the game's core gameplay is in conflict with itself. The trailers made it appear to be a sneaking game along the lines of Splinter Cell, or maybe Metal Gear. It presents itself as that. It WANTS to be that. But it is actually a puzzle game where the player must move to certain places at certain times, often to get seemingly random inventory items. The rails of this puzzle path are so strict that you could write a bot to play the game from beginning to end. The game felt like a 3D Dragon's Lair to me in that it is basically trial and error until you reach the end. Unless you are a masochist, you will be driven to physically rip the bits of this game out of your memory and throw those transistors out your window. It pains me to write this because I love to encourage smaller studios, especially when they swing for the fences. And when a small studio hits the hype lottery, I WANT it to work out. They are working on Hello Neighbor 2. I hope that they focus on the sneaking gameplay and make this game what it should have been, beecause it could have been amazing.
