A journey into the darkness of the mind

Talk about Senua's Sacrifice is to talk about a different way to make a game. This game backtrack to another time, when the studios made games just like a form of art, not following the mainstream, not pursuing the money, not doing copies of a copies of copies... this is a unique game, the care they put on it is astonishing, is an original game, an experience, you may like it or not, but it's undeniable the fact that today is difficult to find game like this. Because the game try to be innovative, take risks, make decisions that others do not take, plays with the rhythm, with the conventions on videogames... Like I said the things can go wrong at the end, or all the opposite way, but when you see the effort, the passion, the good intentions they put in here... you can feel disappointed in one way, but you cannot feels cheated or mad with the studio. Now about the game itself, the game is not for everyone, it's a weird game, a mix between an exploration/walking simulator game an a fighting game. The game is more "simpler" than usual, but that's part of its charming, you don't need to level up in every game if it isn't an rpg, but now almost every game do that without sense. It's not neccesary to craft items just because it's mandatory today, or collect every item on the environment just because yes. Here you will not do any of that, you just walk. You will only walk, surrounded by voices and a deep narrative, surrounded by a surprisingly beautiful environment, and suffocatingly oppressive. You will simply walk and when the time comes you will face imposing enemies and bosses. There are puzzles that you will have to solve in order to continue advancing, so, in short: Walk, fight, resolve puzzles, this is the basic mechanics, until now, Maybe there's some surprise later. The story are very rich and deep, it's interesting and the plot really catch you from the very beginning. The game can contain some disturbing material, because it's too phycological deepens in the fears and mental illness. The combat style is similar to that in Wild Hunt, more simplier, but you can get an idea of how it's works. In this game the sound is far very important, it's highly recommend to play it with a good pair of headphones. It use binaural sounds, and surround sounds. The music and effects are outstanding. The sound really lead the plot. Graphically it's awesome and it is very polished and well optimized. This is a game you play for the story, for the experience of playing it, the emotions and feelings that it gives off. If you like the kind of game that are original and focus in a good story and the way it is narrated, this game is a jewel. If you only want a combat game, you probably will be dissapointed.

Story/Immersion

Graphics are good, has been running flawlessly on my system; headphones are a must for this game. Do not buy this if you're looking for a hack n' slash game. This game is heavy on Norse mythology and story. The atmosphere is amazing and details such as facial animation and excellent voice work add that depth. The game has been presented in a linear (for the first hour of play) manner but the pacing has been quite good so far.

This is storytelling at it´s best!

From the very first moments of Hellblade the voice acting, performance capture and writing suck the player into the world of Senua. Best experienced with headphones the voices that are almost constantly in your ear mock you, push you forward or try to hinder your progress. The delivery is flawless. You get sucked into the head of Senua and almost never leave it, only for a few fourth wall breaking moments, when Senua is looking directly at the player and adress the voices that are in her head. The gameplay is solid, fighting is satisfying and on the harder difficulty challenging. The world building is great, the graphics tend to look fotorealistic at times and surreal at others. All in all this is a must have. The surprise hit of the year so far!

An excellent game with annoying flaws

Hellblade is one of the most enjoyable games I've played in 2017 so far, I loved the main character, I loved the story, the visuals and the excellent audio, all reasons to give this game all the five stars it deserves here if it wasn't for two major issues: The combat: Frankly, I think the combat system is the game's weakest part. The fights are very repetitive - you face the same four (or maybe five) basic enemy types over and over again and instead of mixing up their patterns to increase difficulty it just throws more enemies at you. Especially at the end of the game this gets very frustrating because it just takes forever to kill wave after wave of enemies. Some fights are just too long and boring. I understnad the reason for the lack of variety and I think I could live with that if it wasn't for the length of the fights. I recommend playing it on easy combat difficulty since increasing it doesn't seem to change much and also doesn't enhance the gameplay in any way. Performance for AMD-Users: The first 4 to 5 hours of the game ran perfectly on my RX 580, usually at around 60-64 FPS with everything turned up to high or very high. But later in the game you get to larger areas and there the FPS will never go above 13 FPS. This problem is widespread and Ninja Theory already announced a patch as of today (08/10/17) which is nice and all but thew game is still shipped unplayable for AMD users - which just isn't acceptable. So if you're not buying it for the combat and you use an NVidia Card - go for it, it is a great experience, especially for how much it is.

They delivered.

Ninja Theory gives exactly what they promised! Epic story, beautiful visuals, triple a quality. Great experience especially for this price!
