Not perfect. Still absolutely amazing!
Really original and well developed setting and story - very internally consistent, while still full of wonder, and fantastical elements. Suspension of disbelief is through the roof! That's how fiction should be written!! (reminds me slightly of Beyond Good & Evil in its certain qualities) Story has so many twists and turns, that it could as well be one of the Rivers the player travels on ingame. And even if the player expects some of those turns, it's a good kind of feeling. Why, you ask? Player is met with mysterious universe, that's not well understood even by its inhabitants. Then, the player starts to establish certain theories about the world, with the help from NPCs or the protagonist, but also from connecting the dots from bits and pieces of backstory/lore. Then, player confirms, or discards those established theories, based on further information - archeological focus of the game causes it to play almost like an detective game, because the past is very much alive (not-dead?), so to speak. Ahistorical chaos, which the world is drowned in (historical knowledge is considered strange and unnecessary for certain reasons), further adds to the depths of "the investigation". Add to the above: - Language system (very organic and enjoyable overall), - Travel minigame (simplistic, slow at times, but plays its role sufficiently) - Non-linear approach to exploration/story (order of explored Moons is for the player to decide and affects how the game plays further, at least to a certain degree) In general, game is astonishingly ambitious and probably stretches a bit too wide - that's why the flaws are apparent and tangible. I think the most important are: - Overall slow tempo - Dialog system is imperfect, which in addition to certain "solutions" being obscure (not a bad thing on its own), can result in frustration or missing some bits of content - Language system is lacking QoL features - Travel minigame is underdeveloped A MUST play, if you can swallow the above.
