"People are strange when you're a stranger." - Jim Morrison, The Doors.

Welcome to Harvest. It's a quiet little town with eccentric locals and traditional family values. Life moves at a slower pace in quiet Harvest without the hustle and bustle like you'd get in the big city. Don't forget to attend the annual PTA Bake Sale and keep in mind that the blood drive is mandatory.

Harvester is one of the most controversial horror games of its time with a classic point-and-click interface and tons of interesting puzzles. You'll play as the amnesiac Steve (who is such a kidder!) as you try to figure out why you should join the Order of the Harvest Moon and discover the horror that lurks just beneath Harvest's small-town veneer. Meet some of the strangest characters to ever grace the computer screen--such as Mr. Pottsdam who really, really loves red meat or Colonel Monroe who guards the nuclear missile base and holds The Button. Harvest is a lovely town and the locals aim to keep it that way, no matter the cost...
  • Play Harvester the way it was meant to be played: completely uncensored!
  • Written and directed by Gilbert P. Austin of Wing Commander and Strike Commander fame!
  • Perform random acts of sabotage, blackmail, murder, evidence tampering, and many more innocent pranks!
  • Meet characters that defy categorization due to their rather unique personalities!

Great Game

This game must have had a very niche market and limited advertising in 1996, because I had never heard of it then. I'm kind of sad about that. I just finished it and I love it! It's definitely not scary by any means and most of the acting is pretty cheesy, but it's so disturbing that it's amazing. You play as Steve, a young man who arrives in the town of Harvest and has amnesia. He can't remember anything and everyone thinks he's joking. You learn of a place called The Lodge and something just isn't quite right about the town. It's up to you to uncover the mystery of what's really going on here. Overall the game itself is pretty straightforward. You point and click your way through, picking up items, talking to folks, combining certain inventory items, etc. It's your typical 90s fare. For those who didn't grow up in the 80s or 90s, some of the puzzles may stump you. There's a couple that really are nonsensical. I had practically zero issues getting through all of them, but there were one or two that took me some time. I also grew up in a time where you had to take notes, make multiple saves and try everything (HINT: Do these things for this game! It makes life easier). The story itself is a bit scrambled but overall it does its job for what it is. The game has two potential endings as well. The game is also hilarious. It's obvious enough the graphics are dated, but that's part of the charm! For the price of the game, I highly recommend playing it. I had a blast and it gave me nostalgic feels. One thing to note: SAVE OFTEN, especially when you get to the Lodge. The game was fine until I got inside the Lodge and then I started having quite a few random crashes. It could've been just bad luck for me, but better safe than sorry!

A flawed, yet completely unique game

I cannot think of another game that has unnerved and disturbed me to the extent that Harvester has, while suimultaniously being one of the funniest games I've ever played. The gameplay itself is alright, its pretty standard point-and-click stuff, with some clunky combat thrown in near the end. While I enjoyed solving many of the games puzzles, I had to consult a guide for some of the more obtuse sections in the game. However, the game's atmosphere is amazing, and is worth playing the game to experiance.

A unique game

You can love or hate this game, but it's unique. You have the opportunity to explore the darkest side of the human soul, the fantasies we never realize in our real lifes. (Or better, we should not...) The game was conceived in 1994, and released just in 1996, so is on the old fashion way, for graphics and interactivity, but is a must to have. Once played Harvester you'll never forget. Just my two cents, I consider this game in the best adventures never played, just after "Gabriel Knight 3" and "Phantasmagoria". Give a chance.

Yeesssss

I cut my gaming teeth on this and similar Point and Click adventure games and this, by far, is one of the most deliciously strange P&C games I've ever played, with one caveat... one has to be tolerant and in the mood for it's highly offbeat and grotesque persona. I highly recommend it within those perimeters.

It's more stupid than controversial

I have to agree with Gregsylvanias comment - for the most time it's not a game but a pain in the a**: - The puzzles are ridiculous, consisting of pixel hunting, try-and-error, flavored with time limits later on. - Not enough, there are dead ends where you simply lack the health or the items (!) to continue. - The controls, especially for the inventory and the fights, are terribly clunky. This makes the try-and-error sessions mentioned above even more annoying. - The special effects resemble a b-movie from the 60ies. It's an old game, alright, but even with pixel-art from this time it would look more believable and not as awkward as it actually does. - The story is stupid, forced and illocial for the most part. Okay, here's the good part: - When you discover Harvest the first time or watch the very last scenes, the story has it's moments. So, after you've been warned, you still might consider to get a walkthrough and give this game a try - but you should be willing to deal with lot's of clumsiness and frustration.
