"People are strange when you're a stranger." - Jim Morrison, The Doors.

Welcome to Harvest. It's a quiet little town with eccentric locals and traditional family values. Life moves at a slower pace in quiet Harvest without the hustle and bustle like you'd get in the big city. Don't forget to attend the annual PTA Bake Sale and keep in mind that the blood drive is mandatory.

Harvester is one of the most controversial horror games of its time with a classic point-and-click interface and tons of interesting puzzles. You'll play as the amnesiac Steve (who is such a kidder!) as you try to figure out why you should join the Order of the Harvest Moon and discover the horror that lurks just beneath Harvest's small-town veneer. Meet some of the strangest characters to ever grace the computer screen--such as Mr. Pottsdam who really, really loves red meat or Colonel Monroe who guards the nuclear missile base and holds The Button. Harvest is a lovely town and the locals aim to keep it that way, no matter the cost...
  • Play Harvester the way it was meant to be played: completely uncensored!
  • Written and directed by Gilbert P. Austin of Wing Commander and Strike Commander fame!
  • Perform random acts of sabotage, blackmail, murder, evidence tampering, and many more innocent pranks!
  • Meet characters that defy categorization due to their rather unique personalities!

Crop failure

Aged, outdated, weak social commentary, and an unfit representation of art.

A Clunky, Unpolished Mess

Harvester has some good points to it. Mostly the acting and dialogue are really fun to watch. Outside of that though, it's a really tough sell for me. The frequent crashing near the end game, poorly implemented combat, general lack of pacing, frequently stupid puzzle logic, incoherent message, horrible combat, broken events (managed to sequencebreak on the 3rd day without even trying), did I mention how bad the combat is? My game bugged and I couldn't even kill the wasp woman. The FMV is really fun but ultimately makes you question why there is as much "game" in this game at all when you'd have more fun just watching someone else play it. Some of the worst level layouts in adventure gaming. Skip this unless you are incredibly masochistic, just watch a cutscene compilation or longplay instead and you will have more fun.

At long last

At last, GOG has finally got this release. Played this when it first game out. Very gory and disturbing, especially with the bee's and baby. If you played it, you know what I mean. The UK was censored in the lodge part, hopefully this is uncut. It is a strange mix of game, but the fmv was done well for the time. You will not see a game like this today

Not Worth The Time

A highly unpleasant adventure game that is touted frequently as being a brilliant critique of culture in a broad sense. Most proponents of this game seem to have played it when they were young (read the other reviews). Gameplay: The game takes place over a number of days. In order to progress to the next portion of the game, one must travel the town, pixel hunting for an object for which no context has been provided. There is a rule in game design that is frequently broken in this game, that an adventure game player should see the door before finding the key. In other words, you will likely be looking for a mundane object that blends in with the environment because you have no idea what you are looking for. Confusing and illogical use of items in the inventory. For example, at one point the main character must break a glass window. Instead of simply using any hard and blunt object in the inventory, you have to go through each possible tool and possible weapon (and there are MANY) and only one of those will work. There is a combat system. A horrible idea for an adventure game and it turns out just as poorly as you would imagine. Unfortunately, the last portion of the game constantly requires the player to use combat. Story: Not only does the script lack all subtlety in the message it is trying to convey, but there are actually inconsistencies in the plot that contradict each other. Why does every character I talk to after an event say that they don't want to talk to me, then proceeds to talk to me in a cheery tone? Because bad writing. I found the ending predictable. There are some creative things that go into the storyline, no matter how poorly written the script is, but these are unfortunately held back by gameplay design (as explained above). Violence: Unjustified in the sense that the game is more pretentious than thought provoking. Conclusion: Waste of time.
