Description


Harold Halibut is a handmade narrative game about friendship and life on a city-sized spaceship submerged in an alien ocean.

It’s been 250 years since your home - an ark-like spaceship - fled an Earth on the verge of cold war to find a habitable planet to preserve the human race.

You are Harold, a young lab assistant for the ship’s lead scientist, Jeanne Mareaux. While most of the ship’s inhabitants have reconciled themselves to a life lived aboard the sunken ship, Mareaux still works tirelessly to find a way for the ship to leave the planet and find a new, dryer home.

But the weird, wonderful and diverse people of the FEDORA I keep Harold busy too… Until one fateful encounter plunges Harold into a world no one could have imagined - and one that may hold the key to Mareaux’s re-launch plans.

Join Harold as he explores a vibrant retro-future world in his quest to find the true meaning of ‘home’.

It may take place at the bottom of the ocean on a distant alien planet, but Harold Halibut’s story is an entirely human one, both in terms of its carefully handmade environments and its strong emphasis on empathy towards its eccentric cast of characters. While I wish that there was a little more interactivity to be found throughout its subaquatic setting, and Harold’s shuffling run could have been boosted to a sprint to reduce the time spent repeatedly schlepping from one end of its levels to the other, I nonetheless remained captivated by his whimsical quest to unite his community and explore the spectacular surroundings of his sunken home. Consistently funny and full of surprises, Harold Halibut is a wholesome, handcrafted adventure with plenty of heart.

With engaging puzzles in the mix, I truly believe Harold Halibut could have joined the pantheon of great classic-style adventure games. As is, it’s a title that consistently kept me hooked over the course of its 7-to-8-hour story but didn’t fully reel me in like the very best of the genre.

Indie Game Set in a Beautiful World

I loved this game! It's a wonderful indie game to just get lost in. The story is interesting and engaging and the world is beautiful. This is more like a visual novel. There are no puzzles or fighting, just completing simple tasks in a visually stunning world as the story unfolds.

The Perfect Mix of Old and New

Adventure games were one of my favorite PC gaming genres growing up in the 90s but probably died sometime around the turn of the millenium. This title brings those good old days back with funny characters and an interesting story that is set in a beautifully animated "claymation" world under the sea. Of course this means fetch quests and puzzles (the meat and potatoes of the genre) but none of them are as obtuse are crazy as they used to be 30 years ago so you don't need to worry about purchasing some massive hint guide or pulling your hair out in frustration. Give this one a try if you're even remotely interested in adventure games and I promise you won't be disappointed.

Amazingly Done

This game is truly amazing. The amount of detail put into the characters and their story is absolutely breathtaking. In my opinion the full price isn't really worth it due the the fact it being almost $40 USD but it usually goes on sale for $17.49 USD quite frequently. If the choices you make actually mattered then it would be worth the full price because of the replayability. Since I will only be playing through it once then the price is a no-go for me. Other than the price I have nothing but great things to say about the game :)

It feels like I'm playing a game from the director of The Fantastic Mr. Fox. My wife and I are laughing regularly at the humor, and I am absolutely in love with the motion of the claymation characters and the enviornments they exist in. Absolutely wonderful.
