Hand of Fate: Wildcards

This DLC adds Fates, something akin to classes, but much more flexible. In essence, each of 9 (i think) Fates is a bunch of new rules and modificators plus new adventure cards. Those cards, when completed, open up new equipment, weapons and magic, but to complete a Fate you need to play it multiple times. Of course, this being a game of chance, you need quite a bit of luck to open up cards of your Fate in a particular order, and sometimes it gets annoying, but not worse than hunting for a particular token for games and games. I was only able to complete one Fate thus far, the Soldier - loot wasn't very impressive, but it certainly adds variety. I think the Soldier's Fate is one of easiest to open comletely and one of the most boring. There a lot of really interesting Fates though. Take, for example, Iron Hunger. With this Fate character does not consume food. He consumes iron instead, and the only way to get iron is to disassemble weapons and equipment. Which, in turn, means that you are constantly hunting for more loot, some times even pressed to disassemble your own equipment or but some stuff in a shop - anything to eat. For this considerable downside you are rewarded with new modificators during the game - for example, the higher chance of loot and much more frequent event cards that offer rewards. You also get a cool mask and sometimes traders will give you stuff for free, moved by your plight. So the Fate is not just a class - it really is a new playstyle, that can reignite your interest in the game. I highly recommend this DLC and hope to see some more from the devs. Keep this up and Hand of Fate will be my favourite game for a long-long time.

While this add-on gives some diversity for starting classes, it can also cause you to play the game too much to see the new story bits - which will probably make the game tedious. While the class stories are cool, some of the steps in the storylines can be pretty hard, or very random, to complete, only adding to the tedium. If you love Hand of Fate, and play it a lot, do not hesitate to buy this add-on, but otherwise do not bother. My rating: $3
