FREE TO PLAY THAT’S WORTH YOUR TIME
A fair and fun progression system turns the effort of building a competitive collection of cards into pure pleasure — simply collect new cards to build decks with as you play GWENT; no strings attached.
STUNNING, ALL ACROSS THE BOARD
Beautiful, hand-drawn art and mesmerizing visual effects breathe life into every card, battle and battlefield, making GWENT fun to play and every duel a joy to watch.
SKILL BEATS LUCK
Crush the enemy with brute strength or outsmart them with clever tricks — no matter your deck, GWENT’s unique round-based gameplay opens up a world of strategic possibilities to play with when fighting for victory.
MORE THAN ONE WAY TO PLAY
Whether it’s a quick online game against a friend, a highly competitive PvP challenge, or something new and wildly adventurous like the Arena, GWENT’s selection of game modes has got you covered.
EASILY SATISFYING, ANYTHING BUT EASY
Sling cards from your deck across two tactically distinct rows — melee and ranged. Gather more points in the duel against your opponent to win a round. Win two out of three rounds to win the battle. It won’t be easy, but no one said it should be.
NO HOLDING BACK, NO HOLDING HANDS
You start with 10 cards from your deck in hand, able to play each card right from the start. It’s up to you to open the game with your strongest unit, or save the best for later in the fight. How will your deck look and what will your strategy be?
The game requires an online connection to play and offers optional in-game purchases.
....Homeoming. Came from hearthstone and fell in love with gwent. They way to outplay your opponents and the way the classes felt where incredible. HC changed everything for me. I really tried to love it again but there was just no way for me. All the Gameplay chances make this game for me worse than hearthstone, all the things that made Gwent superior are gone. Its just a basic card game, classes and cards feel generic and boring, the gameplay is super slow and games take foreever. They are very generous with the free2play experience, which is nice unless you play alot before HC and now have a complete Premium collection and nothing to grind for anymore.
Hard to say as a fan but there are better cardgames out there and i moved on.
Gwent was a card game that was different than other card games. Because of that, it was the only one I played. I played a lot of it in beta, and it was a great game. It was fun, it was unique, it was strategic and balanced (enough). Now, they did the same thing many game developers do everytime they have a good game in their hands. They made it no longer fun, so that it would be "balanced" for competitive play.
Don't get me wrong, a balanced game is good, but an example of balancing a game in the right way is Counter Strike. Not once there was an update in CS that made it not fun for me anymore. After Homecoming, now all cards feel like they follow "models". "Deal X damage to X enemies" is an example. Everything they do is replace the X's and boom, there's a new card. The only though there is if the card is balanced for competitive, there is no thought about if the card is fun or not.
I can't play this game anymore for more than one hour without getting tired. CDPR, please, listen to the community, and try to make the game better. Focus a bit mroe on the fun side of the game, and stop focusing so much in the competitive aspect. Thank you.
Most negative reviews here can be summed up as "this is not the GWENT I'm used to". That shouldn't influence reviews in my opinion so even though I played the beta version of GWENT and loved it, here's my honest review on GWENT in its current state regardless of Nostalgic feelings.
Gameplay:
GWENT offers a unique take on the online card game genre where it feels like a card/board game hybrid. With its best of 3 round system and "1 card per turn" rule it allows for more skill expression than your typical mana-based card game. Mind games/bluffing, card advantage and intentionally losing a round while draining your opponent out of valuable resources are skills you barely think of in other card games. If you are looking for a competitive game where skill matters the most and luck the least look no further. Gwent is the chess of card games.
Tutorial/new player experience:
The tutorial is one of the best tutorials in any game i have played over the years. It manages to be very useful at grasping the basic concepts while providing a good story along the way in typical CD Projekt Red fashion (they even included choices/consequences). It feels like a mini RPG with missions, progression and rewards along the way.
As for new player experience, it can be jarring finishing the tutorial and being presented with a slew of cards each with special effects and multiple keywords. the learning curve is steep, but rewarding nonetheless.Gwent is easy to play but hard to master.
Economy:
The game offers multiple options for unlocking rewards like daily quests, achievements and reward points, ranking systems and even the simple act of winning a round all contribute to your bank of scraps and ore used to buy kegs and craft cards. Even "meteorite powder", a currency used only for cosmetics, is given to players in generous amounts throughout the game.
UI/Graphics:
Beautiful menus and game boards are hindered by clunky/slow controls. The card art though is on another level. It is THAT good.
Just to make this clear: Gwent changed a lot when it got released. With Homecoming a lot of the mechanics from Beta were removed. And I understand that this got many people upset. Gwent is not like it used to be. However, this does not mean that the new Gwent is bad. Some people may dislike the changes, but a lot of people really love them. And I am one of them.
The card board looks way better. The animated leaders give the battles a more immersive feeling. And diversity of decks really improved. Before Homecoming you only saw 2-3 archetypes. Now there are much more, even though not all of them are equally good.
Gwent has its problems in its current states. But I am optimistic that these will get addressed once the game is released for consoles. Gwent is a lot of fun and since it is free to play, you should definitely try the game.
Also, the f2p model is the best on the market when you compare it to other games like MtG Arena, Heartstone and Artifact. You get a lot of free stuff and it is no problem to craft a top tier deck without spending real money and without investing too much time. That means you can also make new decks without any problems if you got bored of your current deck.
I only gave it 3 stars because of the amazing Witcher: Enhacned Edition deal.
Otherwise, well the lag is so huge I can't really play Gwent. And it's a card game. On GOG.
I do have a toaster, but this seems too much. Sry, CD Projekt Red
