FREE TO PLAY THAT’S WORTH YOUR TIME
A fair and fun progression system turns the effort of building a competitive collection of cards into pure pleasure — simply collect new cards to build decks with as you play GWENT; no strings attached.
STUNNING, ALL ACROSS THE BOARD
Beautiful, hand-drawn art and mesmerizing visual effects breathe life into every card, battle and battlefield, making GWENT fun to play and every duel a joy to watch.
SKILL BEATS LUCK
Crush the enemy with brute strength or outsmart them with clever tricks — no matter your deck, GWENT’s unique round-based gameplay opens up a world of strategic possibilities to play with when fighting for victory.
MORE THAN ONE WAY TO PLAY
Whether it’s a quick online game against a friend, a highly competitive PvP challenge, or something new and wildly adventurous like the Arena, GWENT’s selection of game modes has got you covered.
EASILY SATISFYING, ANYTHING BUT EASY
Sling cards from your deck across two tactically distinct rows — melee and ranged. Gather more points in the duel against your opponent to win a round. Win two out of three rounds to win the battle. It won’t be easy, but no one said it should be.
NO HOLDING BACK, NO HOLDING HANDS
You start with 10 cards from your deck in hand, able to play each card right from the start. It’s up to you to open the game with your strongest unit, or save the best for later in the fight. How will your deck look and what will your strategy be?
The game requires an online connection to play and offers optional in-game purchases.
I love Gwent. Loved it in the witcher, loved throne breaker. I love the standalone game as well. I love it from a gameplay perspective, love the way it plays. However it throws you in with far better players with far bigger card collections very quickly, and there doesn't seem to be any matchmaking tiers in casual (that I can tell). I am used to grinding and the slow down in how fast you can buy packs without spending cash. But there is the key difference. You can grind without spending money and acheive progression in say a hearthstone or the elder scrolls one )whatever it's called) But here it gets to a stand still where you can't refresh your way out of quests you have no hope of completing. You're never winning so the journey quest takes forever etc. Love to play more but I'm at the point where I can stomach maybe 2 matches a day due to getting smashed every game.
One last thing I don't know what rng is used to determine who goes first but I've gone first maybe 5 times over the hunderedish plus matches I've been in. That's kind of bananas.
Gwent is a very generous card game when compared to other competitors. Moreover, the witcher lore and art is amazing! A must-have for Witcher fans like myself.
I play Gwent since early closed beta. I supported the game through the hard times of Midwinter and Homecoming drought. Gwent became very beautiful and fun CCG. Also, Gwent is the most F2P card game on the market.
This is the place where witcher fans like me can meet our beloved heroes. I simply fell in love with Gwent and will continue supporting it in future.
I know; the reviews here are filled with 1 stars from players that are angry that the game changed from what they were used to in beta. New players shouldn't be concerned with that: they won't be biased by how it was before. Beta players thinking of returning should keep in mind that most of these reviews were based on a small amount of gameplay: it takes time to get used to the changes they made in Homecoming. It took a long time for me. I lost motivation to play for awhile because it was overwhelming. Bit-by-bit I gave it a go, and the more I play it and get used to the changes and figure out how to play with the new rules, the more I like it.
This game is extremely free-to-play friendly. In the new reward system you pick your rewards from reward points gained from just playing the game: winning rounds, and completing contracts (similar to achievements). There is a huge variety in what you can do with these rewards: this alone will keep you busy for a very long time. I disagree completely with reviews that say the game is pay-to-win. You can't expect to have a high winrate as a newbie with the starter decks, but it won't be long before you collect enough cards and experience to catch up with the veteran players. If you aren't having fun, change your deck: there is a huge variety of play-styles available, and different people will like different things.
The developers are actively working to improve the game with frequent updates, and actually (truly) listen to player feedback. I give the game a 4 stars instead of 5 because the current gameplay is compelling, but doesn't make me want to stay up until 5 AM playing non-stop... That could and probably will change with future updates, based on the live developer streams from CDPR: they are communicating their future plans, activiely listening, and the future looks very bright. Updates we've received since Homecoming have already improved things greatly, and there is more to come!
